Tron and its Sequels

I finally got around to seeing this yesterday with my son and enjoyed it quite a bit (semi-baked).

I completely geeked out when The kid walked into Flynn's Arcade for the first time and Journey cued up. Complete nolstalgia meltdown, honestly.

Daft Punk really did their thing on the soundtrack too.

Just came back from the theaters. It was awesome, but not close to perfect.

Don't waste your money on the 3D, there isn't any. It's very visually entertaining, with a pretty decent amount of action, and the story is played out pretty good. The soundtrack is just killer though.

3/5 stars.

In the final scene, where Tron is chasing Flynn, it suddenly realizes that it is supposed to fight for the user. How does that happen? I was expecting that Flynn was going to re-program him or something, just like he re-programmed that one other program (by accessing the controls from the disc on his back) and then took his vehicle. But Tron realizes his user-friendly orientation just out of nowhere. That didn't make sense to me. Did I miss something or what?

The only thing I can think of is that Tron had bits of his old programming coming through. Its never really explained it just happens so Tron becomes the good guy again

Saw this again tonight. I love this movie.

I figured it out Tron/Rinzler start having his old programming break through after seeing Flynn. seeing Flynn made him revert back to tron

I still absolutely love this movie.

I jizzed in my pants a few times during the movie, it was an absolute treat to watch. If the story was better then it would've been my personal movie of the year, but some big plot holes that spring up near the end hold it back.

For instance, What is Quorra made of actually when the laser recreates her in the real world? and even if they failed at stopping Clu from getting through the portal, wouldn't the plan still backfire? mainly because I doubt a huge battleship can fit through that small laser.

Me and a friend joked about getting that huge-normus ship through the laser and what would happen when it spawns in our world.

The problem is that you made the mistake of stopping and thinking about Tron for more than 5 seconds.

Like... what the hell is the food they eat? Where the hell did that pig come from? What are they drinking? etc.

Just... don't even go there. You're doing it wrong.

The city featured in the movie is called Tron City after him, and he's around in one way or another for most of the movie.

Although, if you're going to be spending more money to watch this in 3D, well, don't. Almost half the movie is shot in 2D. I had to take off the glasses because the 2D scenes were too dark with them on. And even the 3D scenes seem kinda unwanted. They haven't really made optimum use of the 3D feature. Only about 5 minutes of footage is worth the 3D effect that made me go 'Woah!'. It seems as if the producers are only trying to cash in on this recent 3D frenzy. The movie would be just as fine in 2D.

On the flipside, I hate it when films go out of their way to gratuitously use 3D effects. Watching those bits in 2D especially shows just how far out they go.

OT: first film for me that I'll actually buy on blu-ray as soon as I can. Very keen.

Just saw the original Tron a few days ago and really enjoyed it.

It reminded me a bit of The Lawnmower Man in the sense that it was one of those films that was quite ahead of its time, and therefore the premise may have been hastily dismissed as "silly, stupid" or whatever else. Also in the sense that both films are still fantastic and relevant even today so long as you can bear to sit through cheesy, out-dated graphics and visual effects.

Anyways, Tron does have a very cool story and I'll be looking forward to seeing Tron Legacy on blu-ray.

News on Tron 3.

Yes it's a bit of a bump but it's a sequel to Tron:Legacy, might as well keep the franchise all together in one thread.

Anyway, Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund will be back in Tron 3 with the same Director Joseph Kosinski.

Really hoping Daft Punk come back and do the soundtrack for Tron 3. They did a phenomenal job with Legacy.

If you haven't heard it before, do it now. One of the best scores from a film. Actually here, a youtube link of the score, plus in the spoiler.

I was always a fan of the first Tron movie, and the sequel was made with original Tron fans in mind. I absolutely loved it.

I even airbrushed the Light Cycle (auto paint with clearcoat, sorry for the fingerprints LOL)

Thats the best new I've heard all week, great news indeed.

I haven't seen it in the theaters but I do have a 51 inch 3D TV, and I was blown away with the 3D in this film. At the time everyone was raging on about how great Avatar looked in 3D, and I've compared the two. IMO Tron looks WAY better in 3D than Avatar does. I have a whole bunch of 3D Bluerays and IMO the best two in order are Tron and The Avengers.

Damn, now I'm going to have to watch Tron tonight.
