Morsaw
If we were to take the in-game Liberty City of GTA IV and put it in the real world, what would it be comparable too? Im asking this because my stupid friend said that the in-game Liberty City is just as big as the real world New York City.(Hes 12 so dont blame him for being a complete moron.) Niko_Vercetti7
This is a tough one....but I'd have to say that in game Liberty City isn't comparable to real life New York City in terms of size. Then again I'm not an expert on this subject.
Hmmm nice bike
I believe Liberty City is about 13 square miles, whereas New York City is about 300 square miles. They definitely aren't comparable in size. LC's size would probably be comparable to a much smaller town (a town about 13 sq. mi.).
ObsydianRaven
I think my home town of Manchester, NH can fit LC into it.
san andreas state
in-game its a huge environment, but compared to real life its the size the sh*t i just took no, really though it would be the size of a town i lived in for a while, weleetka, its about thirty blocks of abandoned buildings and crack houses though not a spralling city
SirPsychoSexy
I think the map of IV is about 10 square miles actually. San Andreas is like 13, I think...
CJsports
I think the map of IV is about 10 square miles actually. San Andreas is like 13, I think... I thought SA was just under twice the size. Probably about 19 sm. And yes I think liberty city would probably be the size of a large town.
Niko_Vercetti7
It's hard to compare the square mileage of a fictional location to a real life location.
Tyler
Not really, it's all still relative to miles and metres. Oh and GTAIV was three fourths the size of San Andreas. With San Andreas measuring about twenty four square miles I think. By the way, New York City is over 450 Square miles, not 300 Edited October 29, 2010 by Unoriginal44
Niko_Vercetti7
All I know is the entire state of San Andreas was huge and I can see why SA:MP is so popular.
Magic_Al
Some people can't believe Liberty City is this small, but if the Rotterdam Tower is the same size as the Empire State Building then these maps are the same scale:

TargetTango
I heard Algonquin is about the size of Central Park.
QwertyAAA
Pretty much, yeah. It's a task of consolidating a city's atmosphere into a reasonably playing environment. Even Prototype didn't try copying Manhattan. FFS, it's 14 blocks wide.
ldee
I heard Algonquin is about the size of Central Park. Yep, that's a practical estimate.
maxopower
Naaa... Doesn't really have anything to do with NeXt, this is more of a GTAIV kind of question. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showforum=120 Edited October 29, 2010 by maxopower
Praseo
Some people can't believe Liberty City is this small, but if the Rotterdam Tower is the same size as the Empire State Building then these maps are the same scale: That map is of Manhattan which is 23 sq miles. GTA IV is about half that size, most likely. Edited October 29, 2010 by Praseo
QwertyAAA
Mm, not even. Compare the size of the blocks: The entire map can fit in the space south of 23rd.
CryptReaperDorian
GTA SA is said to have a 13.9 square mile map. GTA IV's map is supposed to be 75% the size of GTA SA, and that's about 10.5 square miles. That would be a little under half the size of Manhattan. Oh, and I also figured that Rotterdam Tower might possibly be about the same size as the Empire State Building (using the parachute in TBOGT Free Mode). Then again, GTA IV still felt like a small fraction to True Crime: NYC's map (which was a full-scaled Manhattan).
Morsaw
Wow! I never thought my topic would get that much attention! But yeah I guess it might be the size of a neighborhood in an Averagely Large City like Sacramento,CA I guess?

Hmmm nice bike
Yeah, you're right about there being more sq. mi. I must have listed the total land area only, rather than land with water (and other islands) included. Really huge.
