Mr.Mister
I did not know so many people here hated limewire. I hardly torrent since I am computer illiterate. By the way, file-sharing is legal in Canada, aslong as you dont produce multiple copies and sell/give.
GerryM
its no big deal. limewire will die and some other new program will take over. sh*t I used to use kazaa back in the day before it had a lawsuit taken out against it. My family had to pay over 1,000 bucks after my sister got in trouble for using it a while back. Anyhow, I don't use file-sharing programs; I just go for the more traditional method of Googling, "*band name* - *song name* mp3". Then I use a third-party program to get it onto my iPod, such as this one. How was she caught?

johnny_zoo
How did Limewire create profits anyway? People with half a brain would use the free version to download the premium version. People with half a brain know not to download "Limewire_Premium_full_version_download.exe (243KB)" People with half a brain would just use warez. Tbh I didnt know people still used file sharing programs I just use warez/rapidshare as they dont come with the risk of spyware. I also heard torrents are easily tracked when downloading copyrighted material. Not sure if thats true. Waait. What do you mean by "warez"? You mean scene releases only? Depending on what you listen to, or how hifi you want to go, you might not get that limited edition vinyl print in FLAC format of a mega obscure artist, from the scene, which I for example sometimes want to have. Just like the guy below you said, warez is just message boards like this one where users share their files by uploading to sites like rapidshare, megaupload, fileserve etc. This is by far the best way to download music, tv shows, movies anything really and depending on the site you can get some very obscure stuff. But yeah cant believe people even still used limewire I aint needed filesharing since 2003. @weirdo Thats one of the main reasons I stopped using filesharing, there were a lot of reports on the news in 2004 of people being traced via their IP and being fined. Punk-in-Drublic
I don't think I've used Limewire since 2004. Between Mediafire, Rapidshare, Megaupload etc. you can find virtually any album you've ever wanted, even relatively unknown sh*t. I just search for an album on google images and there should be plently that have been uploaded to certain blogs, mediafire is the best, I hate rapidshare though. johnny_zoo
No it's not. Torrents are a bajillion times better in almost every way imaginable. Care to tell me how exactly? Just my experience but torrents usually rely on seeders/leechers or something and I never seem to have enough to get a decent dl speed going. Just my experience but torrents usually rely on seeders/leechers or something and I never seem to have enough to get a decent dl speed going. You're right about that, but when you're using TPB or Demonoid, it's nobody's fault but your own. Private sites generally have a very high seeder/leecher ratio. What.cd for instance has a S/L ratio of 53-something. Basically, if there's more than one seeder on a torrent there, I can guarantee you that it'll go fast. I can't remember the last time I didn't max my connection on that site. Essentially, torrents are faster, safer, more organized than the hodgepodge of quality that you can find on Mediafire etc. That doesn't apply to public trackers like TPB or Demonoid though. trip
What makes Frostwire better, anyway? The guys that wrote linewire weren't happy about it turning into a pay service so they broke off and privately created frostwire. They wanted it to be truly free p2p like the old napster days. My understanding is that frostwire didn't have any copywrite controls while limewire did. I could be totally wrong, since I'm just relaying the story someone told me a bunch of years back. I thought all of this p2p stuff was gone. What's next? A topic for the old Hotline client servers? CongaRats629
Does anybody remember the brilliant way people used to tag viruses? Back in '04/'05 I downloaded a lot of Simpsons episodes from Limewire, since I couldn't get Sky1, which was the only UK channel at the time that showed relatively up-to-date episodes of the show. I would search the title of whatever the episode was that I wanted and would usually then get a few hundred results along the lines of "SIMPSONS_BART_f*ckS_MARGE_ANAL_PROLAPSE_INCEST_PORN_234235.mpg -- 5.22kb". Good times. But yeah, I think it's only computer illiterate, soon to be imprisoned paedophiles, and 12 year old kids, whose internet browsers have 20 odd toolbars, that still use Limewire. Well, if you actually know how to tell the difference from an actual song size to a virus. Not gonna switch to anything else. Frostwire has given me any song I want in a great download speeds. As long as it keeps doing the great work, its on my PC for good.

[SM]CJZera
Pffft... I get all my "legal music" needs off a certain page based on Argentina, any South American should know what I'm talking about... And most of the zero knowledge people here use other things along the lines of limewire... I can't believe they don't just search a bit in the internet and avoid 900 viruses...
