I could imagine the pain by just holding the 'alt' key and 'W' key in hours. lol suicidal.gif

You can tape down those 2 keys.

But still, it would be difficult to calculate the time taken to walk across SA since the map does not have any perfect geometrical shape. You'll just have to choose 2 farthest points on the 2 extreme ends of the map and the line passing through them would be your trajectory. This would vary from player to player and hence, the final time will only be accurate from that player's point of view.

On the other hand, time taken to walk/run around SA would be slightly easier since all you have to do is just walk/run along the coastline.

But keep in mind, the above things are based on the assumption that you would not be running into any non-scalable obstacles on your way.

Couldn't you use the train route to walk around SA, it'd be very boring though.

Yes, but "around San Andreas" means walking along the extreme edges of the map. Since you can't walk on water, that would mean walking along the coastline, as I said before. That would be the correct way to gauge the time required. And I'm also pretty sure no one would be willing to waste that much time to find out something that is of little or almost no consequence.

GT (game time) or RT (real time)?

How about figuring it out with Math.

Note how far CJ walks (using ingame stats) checking the distance on the screen.

Timing it and then measuring around the screen and multiplying for the time?

San Andreas is 13.9 square miles (36 square kilometers)

San Andreas is 13.9 square miles (36 square kilometers)

That won't help, theoretically speaking. Square kilometres represent area. We need to know the distance between the two points to be covered which falls under a linear dimension. So, the formula time equals distance over speed won't work; even if you know the average speed of CJ. Hence, it would be impossible to deduce the time taken across San Andreas.

On a similar note, we do not know the circumference of the map either which makes calculating the time taken around San Andreas impossible to find too.

Of course, if there's any genius theoretical physicist on this forum, then he might be able to prove me wrong. To start with, lets assume CJ's average walking speed = 5.38 kms/hr, which is the average walking speed of a human adult. The smart guys can take over from here. I'm done. tounge.gif

Why not load the map on to Paint and measure the pixels around the entire distance? That way you have the pixel distance. Then find the pixel distance of a bridge (lets say Gant Bridge) and walk/sprint it in game.

Do the equation to find the time to walk 1 pixel and multiply it by the number of pixels that there are for the entire circumfrence.

There are the measured Race Courses for judgement.

examples:

from the Doherty garage save starting point it is

790.54 feet to the Driving school door.

Remember the stats section of the game lists distances traveled (in USA feet.)

Well, based on information from http://gta.wikia.com/Gant_Bridge which sources the Gant Visitor Centre that the bridge is 159.7m.

Now I did a rough experiment, though I'm not sure where it's calculating where the bridge starts and the bridge ends. It takes:

1m 16s to sprint the bridge

2m 5s to jog the bridge

6m 19s to walk the bridge

However, the length I measured was from the piece of adjoining road just after the suspension on the north side down to where the map indicates land below the bridge. So there is still a bit of bridge left, at least.

Though since we only know the square length of San Andreas we can't tell the distance around San Andreas.

On a plus note, I calculated that the distance I timed is 175 pixels. If someone wants to tell me how many pixels there are around the land then I'll do the calculation.

Map I used is http://www.thegtaplace.com/images/sanandre...andreas_map.jpg

Edit:

I did a VERY rough estimation on the amount of pixels. I also made sure I didn't skip over water and only used road bridges (so ignored train bridges). Calculated 7453 pixels. I'll only calculate sprinting.

Calculation:

175 pixels per 76 seconds

76 / 175

= 0.434 pixels p/sec (rounded)

= 0.434 seconds p/pixel (rounded)

0.434 * 7453

= 3234.602 s

3235 / 60

= 53.91

= 53 minutes, 54 seconds to sprint around San Andreas

Also that's real minutes, not game minutes. Game time would be 53 hours, 54 minutes.

Edit 2:

Also, that's ignoring all obstacles like walls, hills and mountains.

Hm, I think my other equation is wrong...

Actually no the equation is correct, just the wording that's wrong

Calculation for Walking

175 pixels per 379 seconds

379 / 175

= 2.166 second p/pixel

2.166 * 7453

= 16143.198 s

16143 / 60

= 269.05 m

== 4.484 h

4 hours, 29 minutes, 3 seconds to walk around San Andreas
