Cyanidetaco
So I downloaded a couple cars from a site with cars for Vice City, hoping to add them to GTA3. I figued they both used the same formats... .dff and .txd. Well, I was happy when I found out that the first 5 cars I'd added worked. Now everything since those inital 5 do not appear ingame... I even got crafty after not being able to find the ones I'd added on the streets; I threw an Idaho in my garage and continued to replace that. Now when I try to go into the garage the door won't even open. I'm using the latest Img tool to install... Only mod I have besides the cars is Dmagic's wheel mod. Any idieas? Frank.s
The problem is most likely the .txd, make a new ones from scratch in iii's format txd or use g-txd to convert them. (III VC and SA all have slightly different .dff and .txd formats, III and VC's .dff format are similar enough to not need changing at all however the .txd's have differences can cause it to not work.) Mini-jord164
Here's my two cents... I can get any VC car to work with III. First of all you have to have run the game before, so it can do it's first texture optimisation. Just install the dff and txd first and see if the car even appears in game (use a car spawner/ garage editor trainer if it's difficult to find). You can change the dff and txd name accordingly to work with a another car, as a few VC cars weren't in III. Then in TXD editor, I change the format from VC to III in the bottom right corner and add the txd to gta3.txd (not gta3.img). If the car is completely or partially white, back out of your game (exit) and rename your gta3.txd to anything other than gta3.txd! Then run your game again, and once it has started loading a new or saved game it will "optimise" your textures again. Then your txd should definitely show up unless the file is corrupt and/or has any bugs. I also think there maybe more carcols in VC than III, so you might have to substitute for a slightly different colour in some very rare cases. For handling, I copy the VC style handling into III's handling files. It will always handle worse because of how the game was made though. You'll find that VC's game handling is far superior. I certainly don't think the wheel mod program will work properly for VC to III "converted" cars. If your car isn't showing up, I would say there is an error with either it's dff or Ide line. The txd is not usually a problem as you can still play the game with a white "dead" texture, but it's not practical nor fun if your car is the dull white colour. So you may want to fix that. All I could say is maybe this one car doesn't work with III, I can see some "converted" cars not actually working & I think that's fair because this is backwards compatabillity! Last note, Don't re-release as a conversion unless you have permission. Plus to be honest. With the lack of work for getting the car into the game, I wouldn't actually call it a conversion, although there's not much else you can call it.
