Will GTA 4 run better with gt240?

Recommended Posts

Because my old card had broken I decided to buy new one and pre-ordered GT240 1028MB DDR2 (I know it's a bit low-end and I should have pre-ordered ddr3 or gddr5 versions). My question is, will GTA 4, EFLC run better then previaus 8500gt. My PC spec are Intel core 2duo e4400 gf8500gt (broken) 2gb ram windows xp

GTA4, EFLC settings: everything on low, cars 40, distance 0, resoliution 600x400, 30fps, 12fps when raining 45 when in interiors. And if it runs better what settings I will be able to use?

Sorry for mistakes, I'm not very good at english

The DDR number doesn't really indicate whether a card is good or not, the GT 240 is a low-end budget card whether it has DDR5 or DDR2 or even 2048MB! That said the 240 GT is an improvement from a 8500GT but don't expect a massive performance boost!

GDDR5 leads the pack in terms of bandwidth, but this card is still grouped as a low-end.

Also the around of VRAM does not tell you how well the card performs

As in simpler terms...

A graphic card with 2GB of memory does not mean it's faster than a video card with 1GB of ram

Everyone here is apparently very uninformed. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php - your new card is approximately 4x better.

The only worry I would have is the DDR2 memory, GTA 4 does use a lot of VRAM, and I imagine the DDR2 would bottleneck it if it needs to access a large chunk of data quickly, causing lag. I suggest updating to the newest patch and keeping your memory usage low (maybe around 500mb)

you are an idiot, i own a computer wholesale company, i know what i sell and ship. the card sucks for game, but you are probably on a substandard rig yourself. dont call us all wrong when it is you who is wrong.

I don't give a damn what you own, look at the benchmarks yourself. It's clearly a better card than an 8500. Why do you have to be so defensive constantly? Why does it matter what computer I have, it's not relevant at all to this topic.

- A bit laggy yes, but he has fraps running and it's mostly max settings.

Just leave the forums since all you do is insult people and post slanderous garbage.

Having a card that is 4x better then an already terrible card does not mean its suddenly good. No one doubted he wouldn't get a performance boost, it just wouldn't be that noticeable especially regarding GTA4!

Regarding viometrix, ok yes he can be a bit blunt with telling people info but hey its usually the truth and that's what people should expect.

True it isn't what I'd call even a mid range card, but that's not what the OP asked. "Will GTA 4 run better with gt240?" And the answer is yes, not "AMG THE 240 IS TERRIBAD"

Ok so I see it's atleast a better card than my old card. Now my question would be, will I be able to run gta4, eflc on 800x600 with settings low and get about 20-30fps?

Try it.

well I can't try it, because I still didn't received video card, soo that's why I'm asking will it run on 800x600 with 20-30 fps or not?

What sort of results did you get with your old card?

the first post shows that on 600x400 everything low cars 40... I was able to get about 30 fps, 12fps when raining

"ikt" my pc spec. are showed at first post. intel core 2 duo e4400 (2ghz) 2gb ram

I'd say you're CPU bottlenecked, meaning your computer will play GTA 4 as well with a 240 as it would with an SLI 480 setup. Your socket (LGA 775) means you can put in any Core 2 Quad CPU if you desire.

ANY CORE2QUAD? I THINK NOT, THE OLDER LGA SOCKET 775 BOARDS WILL NOT SUPPORT THE Q9XXX SERIES EVEN WITH A BIOS FLASH. do not listen to anything this guy says, he doesnt know what hes talking about!!!!!!

BLKMAG in what imaginary wet dream gone wrong are you in any way shape or form a LEET HAXOR? you barely register the ability to turn on a computer let alone use it for any hacking purposes. please stop giving bad or incorrect advice and ill leave you alone, keep giving this kind of information and ill ride you like a $3 whore.

That is not true.

Nope you are wrong my motherboard only suports "Intel Core 2 Duo", "Intel Pentium Extreme Edition", "Intel Pentium D", "Intel Pentium 4" and "Intel Celeron D"

Give us the model of your board to verify which CPU is actually supports. Sometimes I find them manuals to be inaccurate.

240 GT: 550/1340/1800|2000|3400(GDDR) PFR=4.4 TFR=17.6 VRAM=512MB or 1GB (GDDR3 1GB model can be found for $72 from UK online dealer 1GB GDDR5 from some drop box dealers for $100)

All those dealers are questionable ones on google shopping though. There are ATI alternatives with 2GB GDDR5 and better PFR and TFR that I showed in another thread where some guys said an i3-530 was better price and performance wise than a x4 600e witch is almost 30W lower and has only a .030 lower PassMark score compared to the i3 with PB on xD

My build was even cheaper and card had more VRAM and TFR, but I didn't know what I was talking about supposedly copared to guys suggesting best buy products for builds ^_^
