gfwLive problems

I think I'm having an issue with gfwLive. I've installed the game. I've downloaded the latest version of gfwLive. I log into gfwLive, then start the game and then go into the social club. And then I log into gfwLive yet again. When I'm logged in it tells me there's a new version of the game out there and if I don't download it I will be disconnected from gfwLive which from what I've read is the only way to play the game. So I say sure, download the new version. So it downloads it and tries to install it and it runs into a problem: it can't create the folder (where the game already exists). I have also downloaded the latest version from rockstar and I've tried installing it myself and I get the same error. I have also tried running it as the administrator. No luck there. I moved the update into the folder and it still can install it. I forget the error it gives me, but it doesn't say it it can't create the folder. How the hell am I supposed to get this game to work???????

 

So is it gfwLive or is it some setting on my pc?

I'm slightly confused here. Are you having problems with the latest update of GFWL or the latest patch for the game?

 

If it's just GFWL, then you can always bypass it by using Xliveless.

To answer your question, yes. If you're confused, welcome to my world! :-)

 

I have problems with both GFWL and the latest patch. GFWL has problems downloading my profile. I've deleted it and re-added it several times as I have either seen posted here or through some google search. I have downloaded he latest version of GFWL, started that up before starting the game up and once in the game GFWL asks me to log in again. Once I think I'm signed into GFWL it says there's a newer version of GFWL, would I like to download it (if I don't I will be disconnected from GFWL - which leads to not being able to play the game)? So I say sure. Then GFWL says that there's a newer version of the game, would I like to download that (again I will be disconnected from GFWL if I don't agree)? Installing the latest patch here fails for because it can't create the folder to install the latest patch (which it does exist because the game is installed).

 

So, in order to at least get by that last download request by GFWL, I just downloaded it from rockstar. I ran that patch and I got the same error message. I have read that maybe it's a permissions issue on Win7, but I've run it as the admin and I still get the same results.

 

I hope it's temporary, but I found xliveless searching the forum and I have place the dll in the game folder and I can play the game. I'd like to get the latest patch installed, though.

 

I don't really think I'll play the game online. So does it matter that GFWL doesn't work? Will I be able to play the entire game without it? If I need GFWL to play the game, then I'd like to make it work. After all, isn't it supposed to work? Otherwise, what's the point if it just ends in a frustrated user. Oh, wait! It's Microsoft! It's supposed to frustrate me. Now I get it! :-)
