I wish Rockstar would've just made a fictional city all together and not based it around a real life region. Secondly, I want to apologize to all mods in advance who don't live in the LA area, as they may be offended by this post, but it is my opinion, and I'm kind of stuck on the fence with the idea it's back in San Andreas(basically LA).

 

It's bittersweet for me. I love the fact that it's in LA. But I don't like the fact how a bunch of people are going to buy this game, complete it, and walk away feeling like they know everything there is to know about Los Angeles and its surrounding cities.

 

I just don't like the fact how everyone is already speaking of the LA area like they have ANY idea as to WTF they are talking about; pre-release of all things. Outsiders and foreigners are trying to break the city down like they know what they're talking about just because they've seen a couple Hollywood Blockbusters based in or around Los Angeles.. Fact is, I LIVE THERE, you don't. I know everything there is to know about living here, so in a sense I feel like I'm one of the few even qualified to pick up this game when it comes out.

 

I just don't like how people are going to talk about this game (prerelease) like they know it all. It's extremely disrespectful. As far as the location, city feel/vibe, and its culture goes - I fully understand it, and see life out here more in depth than even this game will depict. You know nothing about living here in LA or it's surrounding areas, whatsoever.

 

I honestly don't feel like those living outside of California (or people around the world in general) even deserve to experience a place like this, without living/vacationing here, or doing tons of research on it first. You aren't going to fully appreciate the city and fully appreciate the storyline based in the city. You just aren't going to indulge yourselves in the story like those native to this region will. We will grasp the entire concept and know exactly what is going on, and where it is going on. (In fact, I plan on locating my house and where I live in game to see just how close they got the map in detail.)

 

The reason why I didn't have a problem with GTA III's San Andreas is because you could easily decipher the difference between the real location and the video game. There was no confusion, and people didn't equate that version of San Andreas to LA at all. Just that it was simply a cheap parody of the area; as the last-gen hardware didn't allow them to look anything alike. Now with V, it looks real, so people are going to take the game and where it's based out of more seriously. So people are going to come away from this game, acting like they know all there is to know about living here, when they dont, and I don't like that.

 

So on one side I love that I'm going to be able to experience LA through the eyes of Rockstar. On the other, I feel kind of disrespected they're making it based off LA and Southern California which is the greatest place to live on Earth. I don't feel like anyone who lives outside of this area deserves to play this game. Not anything against you all personally, it's just this is where I live, this is where I grew up, and I have too much pride in living in SoCal to allow people who have no idea what it's like to live here, disrespect this place by acting like they know what they're talking about. Both before release or after completion of the game.

 

I'd hate to tell people not to buy this game based off that fact, but I feel like I want to, even though I know that's not going to stop you, and it'll probably end up encouraging you to buy it. But please take this into consideration before you do. Go do some research, go vacation here, come live here for a few months and then I'll have no problem with you buying the game. Until then, this is the only consolation I have, and that's to make a thread to get it off my chest.

You sure as hell pissed me off, that's what you did. So what? We don't live in LA, but then following your logic, you're not fit to play GTA IV then, so return your copy (if you have one) to the store immediately. Seriously, get a life, and GTFO.

After the 2012 thing, do you think we should have a new system for time? I think they should bring 50 days per month, and remove saturday and sunday. Make it a 5 day week as well. It would be like that in my world.
