IV_MP3 2.4

This is a radio mod for GTAIV / EFLC. It is basically Independence FM with a little twist.

It offers the same abilities as the game included Independence FM with the following additions:

Ability to fast forward/fast rewind.

Ability to pause a song.

In-game display of elapsed time, remaining time, artist, title, album and year.

The mod uses the following keys:

X Start IV_MP3 (Play)

Multimedia Next Next Song

Multimedia Previous Previous Song

Multimedia Play/Pause Pause/Resume

Multimedia Stop Stop

Num 1 Fast Rewind

Num 3 Fast Forward

Num 7 Volume Down (songs only)

Num 9 Volume Up (songs only)

U Display/hide in-game display

R Enable /disable Random order

T Enabled/disable URL

RCTRL+F10 Create list of songs to songs.txt

As you can see, it utilizes the multimedia keys of modern keyboards, if you don’t have such a keyboard, you can always bind the keys to different keys using IV_MP3.ini. In addition to setting the keys, you can also set the following settings:

Display=1 //Display In-Game Song Information Enabled on Game start

DisplayTitle=1 //Display Song Title 5 seconds on each new song, this only happens if

In-Game Song information is disabled.

OnFootEnabled=1 //Enable music on foot

Volume=500 //Volume values from 100 to 1000

ShortCutDir=Music

Url=

To install this mod, place IV_MP3.asi + IV_MP3.ini + scripthook.dll to the main GTAIV directory (C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV ) or the main EFLC directory (c:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\EFLC). If using a patch older then patch 6, use scripthook.dll for old patches, and rename the file to scripthook.dll. You also need an asi loader, download one of the following three:

Asi Loader:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=380830

Xliveless:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=388658

Yaasil:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=394806

Finally you need to create a directory in the main IV or EFLC directory called Songs. In this directory you can either place MP3, or WMA files, you can place shortcuts to those files, or alternatively you can place one shortcut directory to your songs. In case you use the shortcut directory, set the name of the shortcut directory in IV_MP3.ini: ShortCutDir=Music making sure that the name of the shortcut is the same in the ini file (case sensitive).

There is also a way to use streaming media from the internet, to use this, set the URL= to the relevant URL, and enable the URL in game (when the mod is not playing any songs. When using the URL, the other songs will not load, and you can only listen to the URL. Whilst the URL is enabled only the artist, title and elapsed time will display, you can (depending on the URL) use next and previous song, you can also use pause/resume. You cannot fast forward or fast rewind.

Now when you start up the game, IV_MP3 will load whatever is in the Songs directory, and on switching on the radio (X) these songs will be played. Be aware that loading a lot of songs might make the initial game start a little bit slower. As a comparison, I tested this with one shortcut to my music directory, which contains subdirectories to a total of 1340 songs (subdirectories are scanned as well), it took the game an average of 25 seconds to load all the information contained in these songs (title, album, year, artist, duration). Luckily the songs are only loaded on game start. Be aware that the ability to display Artist, Title, Album and Year relies on your MP3 or WMA files to have proper id tags.

Additionally there is a list all songs feature, that will create a file in your main game directory called songs.txt, this file will contain all the songs that were loaded by IV_MP3, and will contain the title, duration, artist, album, year and file name separated by a | so that you can easily import this file into Excel or any other spreadsheet program. You can create this list only if you stop the mod (using the stop button, so you cannot create this list whilst playing songs) and pressing RCTRL+F10.

Thanks to Aru for the C++ scripthook, Alexander Blade, Listener and Hazardx for their asi loaders

Yeah but when I turn down the volume, the volume of the game turns down too, the problem is that when your mod is turned on, I hardly can hear any conversations in the car or any other surroundings of the game, because the music is so loud, but I will just edit the tracks myself so they will be a little bit quieter, but thanks anyway, the mod is just awesome.

I will try to adjust the music volume only, not sure if it will be possible, but will try.

Edit: I have just uploaded version 2.0, that will adjust the volume of the songs only (other game sounds are not adjusted) by using num 9 for up and num 7 for down. Also the ability to set the volume in the ini file.

It might, I will see if I can get that to work somehow, maybe all that is needed is make a shortcut from the stream (LNK FILE) and place that in the songs directory.

I have uploaded 2.1, which contains one small change, the mod is automatically paused when a cutscene is playing, it will also automatically be resumed if the cutscene is finished or skipped.

Edit, I have re-uploaded 2.2 which offers basic support for URL's. You need to enable the usage of URL in game (using T), not all functions available for normal MP3 or WMA files will be present. Supported at this time are mms and shoutcast streams.

Cool!

I did try it with version 2.1 yesterday evening, with a url link to http://mp3.streampower.be/stubru-high.mp3 without any luck, will try it again with version 2.2. Any way, thanks for updating so quickly!

I just tried the link, and it does seem to work fine, Studio Brussel smile.gif

Be sure to re-download 2.2, I uploaded an updated version just an hour ago or so, it contains some fixes to url playing.

I was able to test plenty of mms links and also http://shoutcast.omroep.nl:8104 which is 3fm in the Netherlands, my favourite radio station.

Also to play the URL you need to press T ingame, to switch between normal mp3's/wma's and streaming media. The mp3's and wma's are played using MCI (core windows api function), the URL's however are played by windows media player (which is also ran using api calls, instead of actually opening the player), therefore all is controlled within the game, you won't even see windows media player appear.

Version 2.3:

Small change, when you enable the MP3 player, changing cars will no longer disable the mod, also changing stations will no longer disable the mod. To return to normal radio, press the stop button.

Version 2.4 is uploaded:

-Fixed small bug when cutscene was finished, and normal radio would also be enabled (low volume), this is prevented now

-When re-enabling the mod, the track played is the next track from the last played track

No one has an advice or a solution?

Does it crash with the original ini file ?

Sorry for the late reply. My internet connection wasn't working. Yes, it crashes even with the original .ini file.

Hmm, maybe it is crashing on certain songs ? I am not sure, I myself use this mod (my personal favourite), and I have extensively tested this with certain MP3/WMA files + shortcuts + folder shortcut, and it never crashes for me. Try running the mod with a single MP3 and see if it still crashes. Try with a complete empty music directory, to see if it still crahes. Maybe we can trouble shoot it this way.

First of all, great mod!

I can't get it to play URLs though. I enter the URL in the ini and the game just keeps playing ads over and over. I've tried .pls (which I later found out isn't supported by WMP), .asx and .mms files. None of them work.

Do I need to save the stream file into the 'Songs' folder or something?

Got any ideas?

Okay, got it working.

My only problem with it is how it reduces the game's volume to a very low level, so much so that you can't hear anything other than the radio. Any way to disable this?

I also noticed this. Changing the .ini didn't help so I couldn't use it.

I tried changing the volume in-game with the numpad but it changes the volume of the other sounds, not just the music. Now I think this only happens with URLs, haven't noticed it with local music.

Please update it so the volume settings do not affect in-game sounds.

Thanks!

Hi

Thanks a lot for a great radio mod I just tried your older mod: "radio mod 2.0" and I liked that you could select your favorite radio station as well in it.

Any chance you can add that to this 1? Cause GTA IV it self always forget which 1 you select after a restart. I also liked that you could select the radio station of the radio in the safe houses without being forced to have radio outside them when not being inside car.

By the way you might wanna put a link to the new 1 from the old 1 in the comments field: http://www.gta4-mods.com/script/radio-mod-20-f3651

Also you might wanna either update the version with the newer scripthook so people can run it with 1.0.7 or just tell them that they will need a newer version of the scripthook file to use it with the newest version of GTA IV and maybe even where to find it like my newer radio mod got it: link
