mindofmike
this is the best off all sets. it looks so nice when the sun shines on the streets and the reflections. very nice work. but its very hard to import all files. yesterday i tried it a bit but it doesn´t work. i will try it again Sorry to quote an image, but I wanted to be clear about the question. Which road set is this? That one looks really good in the screen shot.
Rob.Zombie
EDIT: It looks like they look almost the same, except for the concrete part, so my question is can you make a version with white lines? I mean even the lines on the side are white. That makes no sense. I followed the layout of the stock GTAIV roads almost to a tee. Well that's the problem, I mean GTA IV's roads doesn't look like the ones in Manhattan (or I believe whole NY looks different). Anyway I'd really appreciate if you could release an installer since I was installing for like 3 hours and I only managed to get half of algonquin ready (there were still some parts that were missing). "How hard can it be?" Or if some1 finished set 3 properly, can you upload your .imgs? Either as torrent or just upload it to megaupload, I don't really care. DKT70
Which road set is this? That one looks really good in the screen shot. Mike, it's No.7 Well that's the problem, I mean GTA IV's roads doesn't look like the ones in Manhattan (or I believe whole NY looks different). They don't, I agree. But, you can't deviate from the original roads unless you can find the information that controls the bumps and dips, if you ignore them and carry on making some Manhattan-like roads you will find that you'll be driving along one of your own roads and there is suddenly a bump in front of you where there should be a manhole cover, or similarly there is a hole in the road where there should be a drain. Another way of getting more accurate roads would be if members on this forum who live there to perhaps, if they have the time and some decent equipment, to take some nice top-down-view shots of pavements and roads in cloudy dry weather, with no shadows. Sort of taken at standing height, without any zoom, and in resolutions of at least 1024x1024 and above. Anyone up to the task ? Anyway I'd really appreciate if you could release an installer since I was installing for like 3 hours and I only managed to get half of algonquin ready (there were still some parts that were missing)."How hard can it be?" I think the problem is SparkIV, it just isn't very user friendly, especially when it comes to importing, can't comment on OpenIV as I've not tested it. Also, the problem you are asking for isn't straight forward, since you are requesting roads that YOU want, so that would mean 4Gb of IMGs for just 60Mb of textures of one specific set, you would also have Rockstar's stock textures in there as well, and, I'm not sure of the legality of distributing Rockstar's textures. If there is a better way, I'm all ears, perhaps OpenIV is better ?
Scrush
you can upload only the ready .wtd files. and we import it in "brooks_s2",....... less then 200mb i think Edited October 3, 2010 by Scrush
Rob.Zombie
Well as for recreating NY's roads, I only ment the striping to be white instead of yellow. Usually what I did was replace the 2tone non-bumpy roads with the nice and perfect road texture and I used the appropriate textures for the bumpy roads. Anyway if not the whole img file, but at least the modified files in it. And since we can all download the game from torrent sites *cough* pirategay *cough* well I don't think it'd really matter. People convert cars from other games, I can see TBOGT cars in IV, so that's really the smallest problem imo. Unfortunately I don't have any new ideas for making an installer :\
_CP_
The mod is good, but yea, better roads are with white stripes, I change it for me, so it looks better than with yellow stripes.
DKT70
Ok, here is a V7 road Set with White Lines only, no Yellow lines, for those that prefer white. http://www.mediafire.com/?crabz3k5h1mttla Note, the cobbled roads in this set are still on yellow lines because I don't have the multi-layered textures for these roads, I accidentally flattened them then saved them flat rather than layered. I will probably also do set 5, a bit later in the week, since I'm busy on trying out some Pavement textures.
Rob.Zombie
Meh those textures have a big ass line in them and it's not dark enough. I think making road set v3 with white line textures would be the best. Anyway I've found out that most of NY's road look as I've said (so white lines), however these 2 lane not 1 way roads have yellow stripes in the center. I can't explain this, so all I can do is give a youtube link: go to 4:14 and you'll see.
DKT70
I'm not going to, or attempt to, recreate the whole of New York, I don't live there and I don't have the entire road layout to hand. If you want white lines exactly as they are in NY, then I suggest you start your own texture mod with your own textures, while I'm going to carry on as I am. If you don't like what I'm doing then don't use them, also don't tell ME how I should do my own texture mod, I don't tell you or anyone else how they do their's. Symbiote
Man all Rob said was "Meh those textures have a big ass line in them and it's not dark enough. I think making road set v3 with white line textures would be the best." Follow his advice or not, but there's no need to be so hostile just because he gave an opinion. Just trying to keep the peace. DKT70
if you dont want people to give you advice or critic your mod? Remind where exactly, did I ASK for advice, hmm ? Also, show me some constructive criticism in this thread, because I'll be damned if I can find any, just a bunch of moaning f*ckers. Rob.Zombie
No it's ok. It was just a suggestion so if you don't want to do it, I can understand Anyway I think I'm gonna stick with v3, however it is a big ass work lol.
DKT70
Constructive critisim doesnt = "I dont like the colour" of "Its too ugly to look at". Yeah, I think I can cope with that Also, your roads are too clean - had that one a lot on Youtube, your roads are too scruffy, your roads are the wrong color, there is too much red/blue/green in your roads, all those are valid criticisms. I mean, it's not like I'm hanging a Picasso on the wall and asking for world renown expert opinions, they're just a bunch of roads. No it's ok. It was just a suggestion so if you don't want to do it, I can understand smile.gifAnyway I think I'm gonna stick with v3, however it is a big ass work lol. Yeah, no worries. If you do all the work and get all the layouts of the roads, then I'll do them, but I've already ploughed over a month into this, so asking users to put about 2-3 hours into adding their own roads isn't a lot to ask. If you just dont want people to give you advice its ok, just don't go around insulting them for no reason. And I never said writting in color made me smarter, I just like it. DKT70
Criticism - I like your shots, they look great, IMO, I think slightly less yellow, and a bit more brightness and they'll look even better. Advice (or advice this forum likes to give) - I like your shots, they look great, but you should lose some yellow because it looks silly, and everything is way too dark, the best thing you can do is use these settings in Sunny because they look the best. One is perfectly fine, and gives an honest opinion, while the second tells the modder what is best for their own mod. On the surface, this might look like good intentions, or even valid criticism, but underneath it's more like "I know whats best for your mod". And I never said writting in color made me smarter, I just like it. The same way you like to insult people when they are trying to help. Posting in "Look at me" yellow isn't offering any help, and again, sigh, I did NOT ASK for any help. Still, doesn't stop you from dragging this on and on and on, in some kind of interweb drama, I'm sure you'll be along in a mo to post some more useless sh*t that has nothing to do with this thread. boxmonster
My two crits: The lines on the sides of the streets should be white not yellow (keep the middle lines yellow) like this. And especially with Road Set 2, the part of the road where cars' tires make contact with the road should be more worn/lighter (an extreme example) so the parts along the middle should be paler. Edit: I just noticed side stripes are not on most urban roads/ones that allow parallel parking (including most of NYC). Most other places in the US have them though.
