GTAIV Retexture Project

Yes, but I've checked these myself even on stock IV and that's the way it seems to me, I'm just showing screenshots in this thread to show you what I mean smile.gif

As far as i can see, in the last large screen, there is also a better city textures mod used, and of course it wont look good with DKTs roads.

In that screenshot they look fine Dpeasant, but on screenshots like the following they look too dark/clean against the rest of the environment. Just giving some constructive criticism.

Thats one of the problems, they WILL look different on many different mods, especially ENB, so I can't take all the blame, although thanks for the comments. If you look at the textures outside of the game you will see I have kept the same light for each texture in their own packs, so they're at least consistent. But I can't take the blame for them being too bright or too dark unless they are actually like this outside of GTAIV, as this also happens with the stock textures, some look too bright, some look too dark because of the mod used.

I do value constructive criticism, but do bear in mind that getting good tiling isn't easy, especially the more detail you add to the roads such as noise, dust, dirt, then before you know it you have a patch-quilt effect on your roads.

Also, for this

The textures don't seem to fit the IV world to be honest

Remember GTAIV is loosly based on Manhattan, Jersey, Brooklyn, Bronx, and most of the road textures I have are actually from those areas, all the roads uploaded except v5 are actual Manhattan & Brooklyn roads, and they look much cleaner than GTAIV's portrayal of them, if thats the right word. I have always personally thought that GTAIV's roads and pavements were too scruffy, dirty, messed up, certainly not like a super rich country would have. Obviously I don't live there, so those of you that do will have much better opinions than me, but they look pretty clean from Google Earth. wink.gif

Just to add,

I took ENB HEAVILY into consideration when doing these textures, thinking of the extra light you gain when using ENB, I did not use the stock game, although I also used my stock RealityIV mod, so how these look in the stock game was last on my mind.

Edit 2:

Also, since these are simply PNG textures, feel free to import them into Photoshop/Paintshop/Fave Art Package, and adjust the brightness and contrast to suit your game.

Id like to say, that even though i live in a provincial city in Russia, we dont have such ugly roads in the centre of the city, like they have in GTA4.

We have been used to play games where their textures are beeing taken from reality of modern cities where, some of the cities like New York are total mess on the streets. Ugly and dark, unwashed with a lot of problems and unremade with brand new materials that are used in this days, like how IV describe it.

I seen enough on Japan or Germany that has the street exactly how in gtasadude first picture looks like. Now those are streets. They just look exactly with no difference. They look so real. The mod is good, you just need to make the settings of your own that looks the same of how Mafia 2 atmosphere is on streets.

That's fair enough DKT, thanks for the reply smile.gif. I don't usually play stock by the way though, just been testing them out with mindofmike's ENB and stock to get a bearing of what they're like in IV.

Hi DKT !

Which one for you suit best with RealityIV ?

Thanks !

I have been using v5 myself, but wait a few days and I'll have a new RealityIV tweaked for these roads, hopefully by the weekend if I get the time.

and except for me learning to find all the right files to replace blush.gif (light grey crosswalk) I would say so the city has finally began to make good use of stimulus $$ to repave and remark roads etc! tounge.gif

Thx for help DK!

Ok, just to add, these are where the roads are located in the img files.

The list will be continually updated to include all locations.

And these are duplicate roads with different names, and roads that are safe to use as another name. Simply import the required road into the names of duplicate or similar named roads, include the bump and specular maps if required, save & close, Rebuild.

The transparency is already set to 75%, anymore and the roads themselves start to show through, which would look ok if the yellow was spray-painted on to the roads.

As for the yellow, that will greatly depend on the mod used, a mod with a high saturation level will make the lines look very yellow, as would a mod with extreme light. If everything is too yellow for your own tastes, then use Photoshop to batch-script the whole directory for less saturation, something like 25% less saturation would still look ok.

Thanks for the comments, tomorrow, or rather later today, I'm going to release this new road set, it's a road that is older, slightly warn, and less in-your-face road lines. I will release both a gtxd.img, for those that just want to try them out, and the full set of textures in a pack.

Which 1 do you recommend for recreating the streets of NY? I'm currently downloading set 3, but I also like set 5.

Some shots of Manhattan:

http://www.nysun.com/pics/4639.jpg

EDIT: It looks like they look almost the same, except for the concrete part, so my question is can you make a version with white lines? I mean even the lines on the side are white.

Ok, managed to get v7 up, these are more older worn roads, in-game pics above.

Here is a gtxd.img version, for quick testing.

And here are the textures for manual importing.

Mediafire are slow, looks like they've been doing some maintenance, so bear with it. Any extra links would help, my net is already too slow to upload the lot to another file host.

That makes no sense. I followed the layout of the stock GTAIV roads almost to a tee.

Let me know what problems you are getting and I will try and help, I know it's a bit of messing around but it's the only real way of getting so much variation into the roads without me dictating to people what roads they should use, this way there is a choice with plenty of variations possible.

Things to remember, check the text lists I posted at the top of this page, they list the exact places where roads exist, these are specific areas dedicated to each city. If you don't see a road, either (1) I haven't got that far yet, (2) the road is identical but uses a different name, or (3) a similar-looking road with a different name. You are free to import any road to any destination, just try to make sure they have a similar layout, also don't forget the blue bump maps (if required), and the small black and white images which are ( i believe) the specular maps - used to make parts of the roads shine when the sun or rain hits them.

Like I said, if you get stuck let me know and I will try and help.

Version seven looks amazing, can't wait for this to be finished now smile.gif. To clarify, if I only wanted to use version 7, would I need to update every road section or could I just use the IMG file you uploaded? If not, what makes the IMG file a test as opposed to a final version?

The gtxd.img is only a small part of the roads, it doesn't completely change every road, only a few main joining roads, and some highway roads. To complete all the roads you would have to manually edit all the img files, which are huge in total size. The gtxd file allows you to test a set of roads without having to resort to manually importing every road, it's not a test file, and because it's only 28Mb it makes it ideal to quickly import a small set of roads and see what they look like in-game.
