Bike races vanished?

After completing about 4 or 5 bike races, the icons seem to have vanished off the map. I assumed this was normal and they'd return eventually, but I'm now well into the game and I still can't do races - only the gang wars icons appear.

 

Is this normal? Do races reappear at some point later in the story? I know there are meant to be 12 races in all, and I've definitely not done even half of them.

 

Grateful to know if anyone else has experienced this problem, and how they fixed it!

 

(for info, I'm playing on the PC, downloaded from Games for Windows Live)
