d00d
So I was browsing the net at work the other day when there was a lot of hype about this game. Its a series that spans decades and its the idea of leading a nation from its inception in BC up until the 21st century. You are free to do whatever you like - trade friendly with other nations, be diplomatic and open up trade routes - or you can be a tyrant and build armies on a global scale, form pacts with other cities and eliminate leaders and take their territory. I've never played it before and got it the other day, seems like a great concept. To be honest, any game where you can discover a primitive, hostile nation that have a defence consisting of spearmen and rock throwers while you stroll by in B-52s, tanks and a "Giant Death Robot" is awesome. Makes for a fun-to-watch slaughter. Its basically Metal Gear REX. Look at it! An ingame shot of it: Also, multiplayer. So is anyone playing? d00d
Its grippnig. I've never been much of a fan of turn-based strategy games or anything similar. But I downloaded this on Wednesday night, used a VPN to activate it and had it working by 11pm. I sat in that chair without getting up until 7am. And thats only because my alarm clock went off and I had to go to work. I didn't feel tired at all. Never has a game done that to me. Tchuck
Civilization is one of the most addicting games. It's alway "just one more turn". This one has been no exception, I'm loving it! d00d
As this is my first Civ game I've got to ask - do the other nations generally keep up with you, in terms of military progress? For example if I concentrated solely on military and got riflemen very early on, would others generally keep up too? Some of them can be more advanced than you, and some of them can be very primitive compared to you. It depends on how you play and what you research. This depends on a lot of factors * game difficulty * number of cities - a large number of towns early on will kill you with maintenance costs, but later on will give you giant boosts * whether you build city improvements in proper order or not etc Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/459807-civilization-v/#findComment-1060137900 Share on other sites

Adam Jensen
I never cared for turn-based strategies. I don't get it. Isn't real time more fun. What's the deal with turns? And can't they make turn based system optional for people who like real time more? But the game does look interesting. I will get it if someone releases a trainer with infinite turns. That would make sense to me. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/459807-civilization-v/#findComment-1060139480 Share on other sites

And can't they make turn based system optional for people who like real time more? But the game does look interesting. I will get it if someone releases a trainer with infinite turns. That would make sense to me. If people like real time more, they can play something else Turn based strategy is just as good as real time strategy. Turn based is usually more "strategic" than real time, because you have more time to plan things right, and you need to plan things right. Instead of waiting 10 to 15 seconds to have more soldiers to fight for you, making them all pretty much expendable, in turn based every one of them count, because you won't have time to mass a lot of them after going to war. And there's more diplomacy involved, instead of the common "don't kill me, and I give you this" or "let's kill that guy together" diplomacy in real time games. Overall, it's more geared towards the tactics nut than the regular strategy fan. I didn't quite get what you meant by infinite turns, I'm assuming you mean you can move anywhere, build anything, do whatever you want that would usually take 30 turns take one turn. If that's the case, it would make the game terrible because it was not designed to be that way. Today I must have played it for almost 10 hours straight, it's just so hard to stop... JUST ONE MORE TURN! turns into 6 hours quite easily. Playing a game as Egypt, vs 22 other civilizations. So far managed to annex my 3 neighbour civilizations, and everyone else is bothering me about allying to go to war with one of the other big guys. f*ckers don't tell me what to do, I go to war whenever I want Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/459807-civilization-v/#findComment-1060139587 Share on other sites

E.A.B.
I started Civ in the 8th hrade, with Civ III Addicted to it, f*cking awesome. WWII, Roman Empire, Shogun scenarios. It was all incredibly captivating. Then I got Civ IV years later, and was kinda disappointed by the Tech Tree, where I felt it was somewhat disjointed. Whereas before, you had to research everything in an era to move ahead, you could now skip many things. So I figured it was pretty effin cheap. I realized that you still needed certain techs to move ahead, and that the system as a whole still worked. Anyway, I got used to Civ IV. The constant cottage building though....ehh..... Anyway, I hear that Civ V is more 'casual' in the sense that a lot of things are simplified. I LIKE stacks. But I guess I'll get used to it.....maybe. I'd play it if companies didn't have such a hard on with making PC games require higher and higher specs. I, for one, don't care about better graphics. jomiyo
Not surprising if things have been dumbed-down 'simplified' over the various releases, considering far too many series in other genres.. Hmm, now I'm tempted to forget this and pick up Civ III. Edited September 27, 2010 by Supreme. E.A.B. Hmm, now I'm tempted to forget this and pick up Civ III. Well, in defense of CIV IV, punishing you for going into a mad rush to build more and more cities is rather appropriate, and worked out well. Also, the lowering science all the way to 0 when a new tech is about to be discovered, while helpful, won't be missed. But STACKS. WHAT HAPPENED TO STACKING UNITS? GOD DAMN IT I WANT TO STACK I LIKE STACKING STACKS SOME TRIBULATIONS ALWAYS CONCUR WITH f*ckING STACKS Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/459807-civilization-v/#findComment-1060140903 Share on other sites
Tchuck
I feel that by removing the stacks they added some more strategy to the game. Now you'll have to work to conquer the city, instead of marching in with a huge stack and steamrolling it. Mind you, in early ages you can still steamroll the cities with relatively few units. But now you have to position them accordingly, taking care of where to manouver your army through. Isn't there a Civ5 demo around? It would be worth to give that a try to see if you like it. d00d
To be honest, I never read any of the help. I also have no background in this game and dived straight in.
