viometrix
how much ram do you have? you need 4 gb, and your archaic operating system doesnt help either. try moving to win 7 x64 and youll be in much better shape. Bmxismylife123x
AMD Phenom x4 9750 @ 2.4 GHz 4 GB RAM ATi HD 4870 1gb Windows xp 32 bit Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/459502-gta-4-high-settings-problems/#findComment-1060131757 Share on other sites
luceberg
As viometrix says, a 64 bit operating system would be of benefit, using all 4Gb of ram instead of about 3Gb for a 32 bit system. Also Windows 7 makes better use of a quad core cpu. Apart from that, you have a good system. If it were mine, I would overclock the cpu past 3Ghz. As for your specific problem, I don't know, but could be lack of memory. Try turning textures to medium for the time being. mkey82
4870 can't run this game o high settings on that resolution without any problems. You can try using memrestrict. Not to mention you CPU is underpowered here, 2.4GHz is rather low for GTAIV. Bmxismylife123x
last time when I tried overclocking cpu I almost f*cked it up and for 4870 I disagree 'cause I used to run the game on high settings with this card I think it's due all these stupid patches Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/459502-gta-4-high-settings-problems/#findComment-1060132651 Share on other sites

viometrix
last time when I tried overclocking cpu I almost f*cked it up and for 4870 I disagree 'cause I used to run the game on high settings with this card I think it's due all these stupid patches if you ran this game on high settings with that card, then you are better then us and shouldnt be asking for our advice. it is a known fact that a> the 4000 series cards are buggy with this game and b> not a single card in the 4000 series can run the game in full high settings. and dont blame it on the patches, just drop another hit in your pipe, move along. luceberg
The 4870 should work at those settings if you limit the framerate to 30fps. Use commandlines -refreshrate 30 -framelimit 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/459502-gta-4-high-settings-problems/#findComment-1060133048 Share on other sites
