visionist
Why in the hell do Sony and Microsoft refuse to carry AO games on their consoles?! How the Hell does it hurt them? GTA needs to get serious about portraying crime, violence and profanity. The R rating is a Joke. The games are all rated 18 in the UK anyway, the highest availible rating. GTA is dumbed down and sanitized because R* knows a Sh*tload of young kids play the games, so they ruin the appeal for all the ADULT and MATURE TEENS who want a full on brutal, uncompromising depiction of crime, not this spiderman style Bullss*it we are getting now. Mati
The game is 18plus. What more do you want? It is bloody, mature, no spiderman bullshXt... It is the parents fault if they buy it. And sony and Microsoft dont refuse adult games. There are much bloodier games like Dead Rising 2 or Gears of war. mrpain
I cant see why you are complaining. GTA on M18 runs fine enough. Hell even in TLAD there's nudity and yet it's still M18. Besides, what's the difference between AO and M18? If you're telling more gameplay wise, please do share. Tyler
AO (Adults Only) is the one rating higher than M (Mature). It cannot be implemented due to the fact that no publisher will work with such graphic content. Usually, and AO game will have well over thirty minutes (Added together or separately) of full nudity, as well as extreme gore depictions, and show absolutely no concern for human life as a metaphorical or philosophical stand. Grand Theft Auto doesn't seem to fit right in that category... Drift-Kingz
You made a topic just to complain? The only thing that YOU think is a joke is this rating business but all I'm seeing is some 12 year old child pissing about some video game rating. What you don't realize is that kid's under the age of 13 play GTA. (even though they aren't meant to, it still isn't a problem.) Upgrading the rating up to AO would be such a stupid thing. GTA is filled with humour and numerous activities to do. Some violent, some not really violent. But if we're gonna keep that format to an adult rating, then something is going to f*cking happen. All I know is, the game rating is fine where it's at. Beside's the game is meant for MATURE people. I don't think you should be playing it. Kwandilibro
Pretty simple. With an adult rating, Walmart and Target won't sell it. There goes half the customers. jnzooger
In the USA, M is 17+ and Ao is 18+. The main difference is that the console companies won't allow it to be published if its Ao and most stores won't carry it. Other countries rate the game 18+ already, thus this topic is moot for them. Nativedeem
I never heard of a game that was rated Ao for violence/gore alone... except manhunt 2. If you really wanna see nudity use the internet. And about dead rising... zombies arent exactly humans anymore or even living beings. James_Earl_Cash
Manhunt 2 was pretty mild for an AO rated game. The gore wasn't even that bad. General Goose
What would an AO rating serve? It's basically saved for porn titles, and sex scenes in GTA will add NOTHING to the story whatsoever, they'll simply just turn a lot of customers and retailers off. From a business perspective, making an AO GTA is STUPID, from a game designing perspective, it's pointless. jnzooger
Exactly one AO game ever. One on that list. (coughwikicough) Personally I have seen other lists that had more. Besides, if you really want to get down to it, PC games don't really count cause the only time they have to be rated is when they are gonna be distributed to stores/consoles. Look at any game like PokerStars or something, and realize that if it were rated, it would be Ao. Its like releasing a movie as NR on DVD. You don't have to get it rated because its not in the theater. However a bunch of them would be rated NC-17. Speaking of...NC-17 is equivalent to Ao, and R to M, but both NC-17 and R are 17+...what's the explanation here? And don't mention X rated cause that's not a regulated rating. (I do know the answer by the way, I'm just throwing that out there for thought.) Helsinki
Now, I don't know what the differences between M and AO are (and don't want to spend time finding out), but it seems that the current rating doesn't allow much if any nudity, let alone sex. I love sex, the female body, and all that, and would very much like to see that reflected in games, as well. Not as a gimmick, but as part of the story (i.e. depicted in cutscenes). List your ten favorite films and see how many of them have at least one nude and/or sex scene. At least half of mine do (no, they aren't "Backdoor Adventures 1 to 5"). BTW, the "if-you-want-nudity-go-to-Internet" argument is laughable. All the other aspects of GTA games are on the Internet, too. EDIT: Just noticed... it's been 5 years today since I registered. Yeehaw! Wolfmight
If you ask me, the whole M and AO thing is retarded. M requires the player to be of atleast 17 years old. AO requires the player to be of atleast 18 years old. A 1 year difference in age requirement, yet many people well into their 30s+ are complete babies about AO because of the fact that it will involve a lot more porn and other extreme taboos. Official Descriptions from the ESRB: MATURE Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language. ADULTS ONLY Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity. I say a lot of game publishers fear of AO particularly because many parents of 12 year olds are willing to buy them the MA game with soft core porn and occasional close up of a congressman's penis, but certainly not the whole cup of hot coffee. Rockstar really likes pushing the limit of that MA as well.
