how to 5.1

Recommended Posts

I have my pc set up to a 42" LCD TV & a Sony STR Amp ,that is 5.1 great sound for a cheap price.

Any way does this game Support the use of 5.1 .as i have OPTICAL SPDIF output on my pc~~

I only see 2 options in audio ,thats stero/headphones.

PLS LET ME KNOW guys .& dont tell me about those crapy logitech's that decode 2ch to 5.1,cus thats just a 3d effect

in witch is just pffft. cheese.

Thanks guys...

GTA:IV and EFLC look to your Windows sound settings to find out what speaker configurations are available.

I'm on Vista. So to set up the speaker configuration I have to go to Start > Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Speakers > Configure Speakers ... in order to tell Windows that I have a 5.1 setup.

Once you've set that up, only then will GTA:IV and EFLC will show you the additional surround options for your speaker setup.

Where you find speaker config on other versions of Windows won't be exactly the same, but will be similar. Just find the Control Panel and follow your nose.

Enjoy.

I ALREADY have done that ,i can watch movies in 5.1 np at all .tho i think this game is only 2ch .

its all im asking dont worry about it .

I had this problem when I first bought GTA:IV the solution which is why I thought the solution I found for mine might suit you. However, it's obviously not the same problem, sadly.

However I can confirm that my retail EFLC does show the surround options in the audio menu just like my GTA:IV does.

How effective it is is a different story. I have noticed I haven't been as "surrounded" as I'm sure I used to be.

set audio setting-->surround rear thats all.

make sure your pc audio hardware speaker set to 5.1.

Another solution....

uninstall the game completely.set speaker to 5.1 then install the game.the game audio will be run as default surround 5.1 without have to change audio setting in game.

How effective it is is a different story.  I have noticed I haven't been as "surrounded" as I'm sure I used to be.

Your thread has inspired me to have a proper look at my own system. I discovered that it hasn't been working properly. I'm not sure when it stopped working, but I have fixed it.

I discovered that both surround channels of my 5.1 have been getting mixed to their respective front left and front right speakers. This included the test signals from both the Windows sound settings and my sound card driver's control panel. (Note to self: wash out ears)

I have an Auzentech X-fi card. After exploring the Auzentech control panel's various options I discovered a discrete "Encoder Settings" button. In that panel I discovered that the Dolby Digital/DTS Encoding was turned off. I switched it to Dolby Digital Live and the rear speakers started working again.

I've tested it in both GTA:IV and in EFLC and it works superbly.

Now I don't know if this will help you, loony979. But if there's an equivalent setting in your driver it might be worth checking it out. But I can confirm, after the doubt you expressed earlier in this thread, that this game definitely, definitely does full proper 5 channel surround. biggrin.gif

Hope you figure it out. Enjoy.

You guys should be careful with audio settings in Control Panel, especially when connecting audio board to a 5+1 audio system. I burned an audio board that way.

That sounds extremely unusual.

But I think loony979 will be quite safe. He's talking about making the connection using his computer's optical SPDIF output. So there should be no chance of any electrical incompatibility issues that might cause a burn out.
