GTA IV Roleplay
This topic is to focus on those which automatically assume a Britain-based GTA game will be terrible. Many people look at the GTA series as an american-based free-roaming gaming experience. I am not against those who believe this tradition should be followed, as its normal, its familiar territory for us. Change can cause fear that the GTA series will not be the same - understandable. Many people think that a Britain-based GTA will be a "flop" as it doesn't back the same criminology to that of America. Well, Britain has guns, drugs, gangs, and much more that America has. If not, a darker depth! Many people just refuse the thought of a Britain-based GTA, because they are patriotic about their country, and there's no need to change. What's wrong with change? The usual can become boring, and many people know. Being patriotic is understanding, but can sometimes come across as being ignorant, or stubborn. Why do you people criticize the though of a Britain-based Grand Theft Auto game? I watched the final episode of "The Bill" - a drama telivision programme that showed London's crimes through the eyes of those in the Metropolitan Constabulary, and it showed guns, drugs, sex, and gangs in the space of a 2 hour period. You could easily see the fear and respect people had for street-gangs in one area. People living in fear of others. This shows darkness of life a GTA game would need. I never usually watch the drama series, but I was easily sucked in to the story within the space of... 5-10 minutes? There was always something happening, and it was all in just one estate in London. Many people strike out at a game based in Britain, because of petty, and disrespectful reasons. You don't like our way of life? We have learned to like yours through games entirely basing themselves on the "American Dream". You can't stand our accents? Oh, and we haven't learned to accept your wide range of accents? We're not too bothered about it, but you just use it as a reason to be against a Britain-based game. Or maybe its the old "our country is far more superior than yours, it will be a much more interesting story if it was based here." Grow up, 'eh? Your just basically a person who has too much pride and you think your better than everyone. Shame on you! The Darkness I read that, and it sounded horribly gothy, and freaky... anyway, back to the point. The darkness of crime can be seen ultimately disgusting, but this is what we are sickly entertained by inside, right? I watched a programme that showed this darkness. Where was it based? London. I saw a gang of people rape a teenage girl & the leader of the gang was her boyfriend. The fear over them was superior, as they forced her to say such things as "I like it". I was sickened. Another side of the darkness is when a gang had found a lonesome rival member in a public area. What did these chinese men do? Brutally beaten him with cleavers. Imagine being struck with a cleaver by 5 men? Instead of being struck by a fist, they were repeatedly swinging cleavers. They continue'd as he screamed, and cried, whilst they hacked away at his skewed body, covered in blood. Then walked away like nothing had happened. I watched on, and almost came to a tear rolling down my face. I was traumatised by what I had seen. So, what is it? We have crime that's arguably feared, and deeply interesting. There's nothing wrong with a Britain-based GTA at all, neither is there a fault with a GTA based in America. Just stop being a person with too much doubt, pride & jealousy of Britain taking the "spot". I'm not saying it will happen, I'm just saying its continuous banter, and it's basically a disrespectful, and a banter thats "frowned upon". Thanks for reading. SilentSeas
The last episode of the Bill was last night? Damn I missed it OT- I totally agree with your points but whilst there are some who have logical reasons for not wanting a game in Britain (like wanting other locations first), there will always be idiots who believe the stereotypes and think that we're nothing but tea drinking, crumpet muching, butlers with cockney accents that do nothing but salute the Queen and play cricket. Try as hard as you want but those idiots will never change or go away, I learnt that myself not to long ago. Kwandilibro
I don't think a game in Britain would suck. I mean, R* is from the UK, they ought to be able to make a good game based in their own country. But I think a British based game would be best if it was just in London, the UK's best known city. Besides, the UK is pretty similar to the US, right? Of course, the lack of the slightest bit of road planning might be very annoying, as well as a few other things, but hey. We could get over it. London 2012, anyone? Now the rest of Europe, that's a different story. But I've grown to not mind a British setting. But get over it dude. A lot of Americans are very ignorant and intolerant about stupid things like that. Its not the best of Bond films though... But a Bond based protagonist would be hilarious When GTA is set in London (it will happen at some point), those who have moaned about the idea of a British GTA will still buy the game and come to love it as much as any other GTA. Thanks man. At first, I thought a game based in London would be awful. Typical American. But then, I actually considered it. Most of the opposition is either irrelevant or not a big deal. "The accents are annoying"- Yes, they are very annoying. But so are white southerners in America. In fact, White southern accents may actually be worse than British accents, although they all sound the same to me. "You drive on the wrong side"- So. Learn to adapt. It shouldn't take long. "They don't use guns in Britain"- Well, they do have a lot of knife crime, but GTA is pretty exaggerated compared to RL, so that shouldn't be much of a problem. Most of the other reasons are pretty stupid. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/458327-whats-the-problem/#findComment-1060109200 Share on other sites

I live in the North-West of England, so my accent's completely different to those of people living in the South of England. My mother's a cockney, but she adapted to our accent. Well I know one thing, all country(rural) American accents are annoying. Which really only includes white and black people. But country white people's accents IMO all sound like southern white accents, and thus, are unbearable. But how could people on such a small piece of land have so many different accents? Sure, NYC has a lot of accents, but those are ethnic accents. But different British accents? And amongst the same race of people(not including the immigrants and other non native British races)? It just doesn't make sense to me. And finally somebody explains to me what Cockney is.
