Hi, long time no see smile.gif

I've thought about the forum, its a bit messy sly.gif .

I think it could be nice, if there would be groups. The groups could be like 1. Beginners 2.Advanced 3. Experienced 4. Masters.

Everyone would start at beginners, and they would need to get ppl that think they should advance to next group, example: Beginner needs 5 ppl that thinks he can advance, Advanced needs 10 ppl etc. Of course there need to be someone experienced on forum, that could lead this, cause Dutchy and patrick aren't onlie... err usually.

Also, there could be other sub-forums, for DYOM help etc.

I don't know is it possible to do on this forum, but if not, then my brother could make another forum (If Dutchy would like to, then my brother ofcourse can give him admin dozingoff.gif )

Wut do you think?

I don't think this forums getting messy. And this whole "user group" thing would just not work. Really, the only people who are really active around here are:

  • leoncj
  • AznKei
  • Tug6666

And myself (probarbly missed some), so there would not really be many people to do this whole "5 ppl to advance thing".

Don't forget about Sgt.Cop sly.gif

No one said that advancing requirments would need to be like 5 ppl agree, that someone can invite turn.gif

Eh it's not messy, tere's just a lot of topics that get started that are followed up with no releases or bugged releases, topics that should really be grouped under one thread (like some people make a new thread for one mission in their mission series). And a few help topics that are missing the [HELP] tags (I find that untidy for some odd reason).

But all forum boards are messy. Just deal with it.

About the groups, is not a bad idea, but I don't think it's practical. It's a bit much to create a system that defines who's good at DYOM and who isn't. There are some total beginners at DYOM who make great missions that even the most seasoned DYOM Designers can't make.

I've always got the impression that the only thing that comes close to being official 'credentials' reflecting your DYOM Design skill is your amount of success in DYOM Competitions. The other ways are more about public perception of you and revolve around your missions and your behavior on the board. One is getting positive reviews from AznKei, since he is a great reviewer and many people really take his word for it; another way is just being helpful and polite on the forums, as good behavior reflects your level of professionalism; and last but not least, how popular your missions are.

I earned positive reviews from AznKei regarding my mission series, other members have reacted positively to the series and offered advice and criticisms, which I have taken and attempted to put into improvements of the missions I make. I also entered the DYOM competition and did very well in that, so to me I think it's safe to say that I am a recognised DYOM Designer, but I am by no means the best nor the most active. After completing my first ever mission series, I've since taken a break from DYOM Design and now just lurk the board regularly.

Really the systemless way this forum is under works best, as it is powered by all members and is much more fair than a dividing system of invites and groups

Thanks for the essay Mattatatta, you got out everything I pretty much wanted to say there. Professionalism is reflected in the users missions and their attitude/maturity. For example, someone is asking for help, and someone gives them this answer:

U got 2 make shure u got CLEO installed.

An you're like "WTF?" You still get what it means, but you don't think the user really cares about the other persons problem.

Really, being recognised and popular in the DYOM scene is easy as long as you take the following into account (as Mattatatta said) :

  • How often you come on the forums and post.
  • How often you give good advice and help users with problems/bugs.
  • You create missions that are well thought out.
  • You create a lot of these missions, or a mission pack/series.

Of course, we all have different ways of designing/making missions and so nobody is really the same. This is how the rating system would not exactly work out.
