blahblah1212
Rockstar Games are usually parodies to what we see in real life or TV. If Rockstar would make a next GTA I bet the action would be situated somewhere in the 70s era, because they pretty much covered everything about the 90s, 80s and today. Every time I play GTA 3 or 4 or SA or Vice City I realize they just make fun about the world we live in and our favourite shows. Just like Family Guy in some way. I mean the intelligent humor and movie references, not toilet humor like in other sh*tty games that don't hit the market. What the Hell does that have to do with flowerpots? Anyway, it's probably just Rockstar trying to add more realism to make up for the realism that was lost in the DLC (generally club managers don't steal military helicopters or get away with blowing up a crane, a subway train, and a private jet)
Jordy.
They wouldn't be there to be showing a progression of time because Niko's story and Luis' are simutaneous. Well actually, do you remember that hole in the ground from Niko's story? The one north west of Algonquin and had construction workers in it? From the original IV to TLAD to BoGT, it progressively becomes filled in.
spaceeinstein
Anyway, it's probably just Rockstar trying to add more realism to make up for the realism that was lost in the DLC ...assuming people believed what OP said that the added flowerpots exist. lcojko
Although I appreciate your input blahblah1212, I doubt that the addition of the flowerpots concerns an addition of realism, as their location would usually be populated with trees, as in the original version. I doubt that any city would find the need to place (and maintain) flowerpots within their location. Trust me spaceeinstein, there are flowerpots in the location I specified. If you have any doubts you can look at the map I provided a link to, and look around that area within your game. (Ensure that it is Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony though, if you want to see the flowerpots, and use the original, Grand Theft Auto IV, if you do not.) Also, I don't believe that they are included within Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and The Damned (On the version Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City). Although I am not completely sure, I am quite certain. In such a case, this means that they were only added in TBOGT as these games both use the same map (in the EFLC version), and were added in only TBOGT. I would like to include the information that I am using a Playstation 3. Perhaps the flowerpots do not exist in the Personal Computer and Xbox 360 versions, which would make their addition even more confusing.
GTA-Bobski
Maybe it's a bug and those flowerpots should actually be trees, or they wanted to prevent the cops from driving into the water. Which they do when you have a wanted level and they chase you. Especially when it rains the cops always end up on the beach or in the water. Gunde
That's definitely a bug. The pots are where trees used to be.
spaceeinstein
That's a cool but odd difference. The trees shouldn't be unique to that location. Try checking other places.

GTA-Bobski
That's definitely a bug. The pots are where trees used to be. That's a cool but odd difference. The trees shouldn't be unique to that location. I checked TBoGT xbox version and the flowerpots are there too so that kinda rules out it is a bug. Rockstar only changes the map if they think it helps the player with either basic gameplay or missions, like in this example: They widened the gate because it is the startpoint of a drugwar. So my best guess about the flowerpots is they wanted to remove the trees with low hanging branches because NOOSE trucks get stuck there. But if they did only that the cops will end up on the beach or in the water. Maybe the flowerpots are in the same object library so they picked them to avoid that from happening. Magic_Al
I don't think this is a useless topic. I had no idea there were any non-cosmetic map changes beyond of the obvious new interiors and story mission locations. All of these add to ways the Xbox DLC version of TLAD is different and incompatible with EFLC multiplayer.
Untame Snail
This is big thinking, but I'm going to mark their locations on my map and see if it hints toward something. I'll be back with info later tonight. EDIT: Conspiracy theorists, GO. Edited September 20, 2010 by Untame Snail
lcojko
Again, I doubt that these flowerpots are related to any conspiracy theory. I guess no one can be completetly sure. And thank you GTA-Bobski for the screenshots they definitely prove my point and add a lot to this topic. Although I doubt this was done to improve the map as they are only in The Ballad of Gay Tony, both for the early Xbox 360 editions and the later PS3 and PC versions (where if they wished to improve the map from TBOGT they would have included in the later versions of EFLC). I think that Gunde has a very likely explanation, considering they are in the exact positions as trees used to be. Perhaps they are in a similar category (object wise) as trees, and somehow the coding in TBOGT converted them to flowerpots. Or maybe it had something to do with diskspace, maybe the trees just weren't compatable with TBOGT. Who knows? Or maybe it is just a big conspiracy theory. I'll be back with info later tonight. EDIT: Conspiracy theorists, GO. If this is rotated 45º flatter it starts to resemble the constellation of sirius as you would see it if you were standing in NYC. Sirius is also known as the 'Dog star'. There are no dogs in Liberty City, or at least that's what they want you to think. They arrived at the end of TLAD. Invisible, super-intelligent space-dogs were watching every move you made in TBoGT.
Untame Snail
xD Nice... I totally agree that it's BS, but still can't blame me for wondering. And now we have this in case there's ever a reason to compare it to something.
Dominico
Jesus, it's 2010! Buy a better tv. Great sales on lcds and plasmas these days, since LED screens are taking over! And if you are using PC or laptop, press print screen button or F10 in Fraps. Edited September 23, 2010 by Dominico

When i saw that i instantly thought of the seagull thing I guess it does bare some resemblance to that advert within the game manuel, however I am sure that it is pure coincidence. Such a connection would prove to be quite abstract.

It is clear that most of your replies are useless. THAT from a guy whose avatar depicts a child having simulated sex? Blimey... OT: It's possible that the features mentioned were always there in the design but were cut out as details for some GFX reason. When the BoGT map was created they would have started with the unrefined base map (I guess).
uramet
This is just a guess... tbogt (and eflc) use a more recent version of speedtree than that used in vanilla and tlad, the latest version of speedtree was released in July 09, a few months before tbogt was released. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpeedTree
vinvega56
"smart guys at work" let me remind you this is a GTA forum so we talk about GTA and stuff. Flower pots, yeah, great topic. Any more decorating tips? Anyone wanna do my hair? After all it's Gay Tony so let's post a topic about gay stuff. Why is curiosity such a problem? Why do you have to criticise everyone? You don't make up the rules on this forum. No, you pretend to enforce them.
