Would you like 1st person?

Like many others I've always been skeptical, and wondered what GTA what be like if it was in 1st person, and there are several videos on Youtube showing 1st person mods to GTA IV.

What do you guys think? I would still like the option of reverting back to 3rd person, but 1st person could be really fun in certain situations.

EDIT- I removed the video as I couldn't get it to work.

Not this thread again.

I wouldnt mind having a first person view while driving but while walking around and stuff, that has to be an option.

Remember, GTA is remembered as a third-person classic. While it wouldnt hurt to make a first-person option, it wouldnt hurt to include it either.

Taste Of Chaos

I wouldn't enjoy first person. If it was just an option. Then that'd be quite cool. But I think the main camera sceme of GTA needs to stick with 3rd person, thats the way it always has been and theres no reason to change that.

Opportunity knocks once in a lifetime, temptation will lean on the doorbell.

GTA is not Modern Warfare 2.

That's pretty much all that needs saying here.

Oh so Bioshock, Halo, Medal of Honor and Battlefield are like MW2 just because of being in first-person?

I love how when a first-person discussion comes up, someone would say MW2 because its overated. Yes it is overated but do we have to repeat it over and over again?

It would add to the realism, so, I would like it but only as an option like in Hitman games.

It would take away all the emotion from the character you're playing. Not to mention that there are already so many first-person games out there. I wouldn't even want first-person as an option.

I think the 3rd person is essential to make the game seem an interactive movie. So, that's why I personally would not play it in 1st person, but it could be an option. bored.gif

I would like to see that the next generation of GTA would include a feature that would enable you to sell/ get rid of unwanted garments and safe houses. That would be essential, if there was realistic heat. Like wearing the same outfit too much would attract police, because you would have been seen wearing it in several crime scenes. Or your enemies would have followed you, to find out where you save, and would launch ambushes, when you come out, making the safe house unsafe.

Actually I wouldn't mind it as an option, as long as that it is only that a option that can be toggled off extremely easily. All those who say not even an option? Why not? it won't be forced upon you to use it.

I wouldn't mind some 1st person rail/linear missions but otherwise no. It just wouldn't suit GTA.

Personally, I'd play the whole thing in First Person if it was possible. I think that's the way GTA should be done, and the only reason it wasn't so in GTA III was because of homage to GTA and GTA II.

I do realize, however, that a lot of people won't agree with this, so yes to Optional First Person. Preferably with a possibility of toggling between the two.

Being able to walk down the street in FP wouldn't be bad, but as fast as you pull out a gun I think it should go back to TP.

I want a dashboard view where you can see the interior of the car like when you ride in taxis.

Word.

What does this have to do with MW2? Just because it's in First Person shooter doesn't mean GTA isn't gonna have a first person shooter mode.

I actually think it's a good idea. I've always liked FPS style. I'm a big fan of those colgate.gif

Plus, the aiming is better when your in FPS mode. It's too easy too shoot in 3rd person. Give us a challenge R*!

That would annoy the crap out of people who actually want to play shooter part in FP.

Why not simply have a toggle?

I would love GTA with 1st person on one condition; control of POV needs to be handled by an actual head tracking peripheral, something like track IR that is used for computer sim games.

I think 3rd person exist, at least marginally, as a means of resolving problems with situational awareness, so until then 3rd person is a necessity.

For driving

Notice that instead of pushing a button to see behind you you’re provided with additional information about what’s behind you in a review allowing for quicker response. Small head movements permit seeing what’s behind and to the sides via the side mirrors. No long repositioning of the camera is necessary, in fact you can offload some of the work on the muscles that control your eyes in real world.

Especially pay attention to

It is just simply impossible for the muscles that control the thumb to outperform the muscles that control the orientation of the head in precision and accuracy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EPA1DiX4Vs#t=0m43s

at 40 seconds for only about 10 seconds. Notice when turning in later portions of the video, although subtle, there is slight rotation of the POV relative to the turning fo the vehicle. In order to successfully complete a turn, it’s good to have information about where you’re going.

First few seconds seem to fk up the video.. start at about 07 seconds and it will run.

This would be critical for driving in 1st person because your awareness of what is near you is limited. In GTA your knowledge of where other vehicles and obstructions are is not as static on a race track.

For shooting.

6:11 Having to not only aim, look, and move with very small flexor muscles of your thumbs is just overloading. GTA (and most 3rd person games) compensates for giving you omnipotence or perfect awareness of your surroundings by being able to see 360 what’s very close. Better to offload sensory orientation tasks to muscles that where actually designed to perform that function.

Just for sh*ts and giggles. This guy maxed out the AI and ran around in the ensuing chaos. It’s just cool and has some trackir use.

As far as I know Consoles don’t have this feature so hopefully it will be something that is integrated into next gen consoles, that assumes that shooters will find this valuable and start adopting it. Until then we are all thumbs except for those fortunate enough to have mouse aim. But then you have to drive with a keyboard

1st person probably wouldn’t work for actual melee fighting but there is no reason why the programmers could not provide easy switching between modes. 3rd person could even maintain the track IR inputs.

maybe when you pause the game you can turn on 3rd person or 1st person

OR you can just set it as an option and set it during gameplay. It's much easier.

Optional. I wouldn't mind it, especially driving.

Doesn't GTA already have 1st person view of driving?

As for walking around, sure have it as an option, you just wouldn't see me using it.
