GTAOCD
Hmm, well is there a list of games that are in the 1080?
SyphonPayne
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayS...with_HD_support Hah... Looks like there are only two. Anyway, on my 60GB PS3, PS2 games look fairly decent considering their age. It does pretty well at upscaling the resolution... Do you have a fat PS3 or the new slim? If it's the 20GB, 60GB, or an earlier 80GB, it will have PS2 backward-compatibility. Otherwise, nah, but I'm sure it doesn't look much better on PS3 than it would just hooking a PS2 to the HDTV. *MURDOC*
Figures that the only 2 1080 games are made by Polyphony Digital. Doesnt the PS3 have texture-smoothing for BC? Or is that just PS1 games that it does that to? Or am I completely off?
Otter
To clarify: The component cables will give you a progressive signal for many games (but you do have to hold down the X button when it boots) - this will look more or less like a nintendo wii game. Regardless of HD, component is also the only way to get a true 16:9 signal on the PS2, as opposed to letterboxing. Ronnyboy, I think you may be confusing component with composite, but that's neither here nor there.
GTAOCD
I've a 40 GB PS3 and the newer slim PS2.
SyphonPayne
Yeah, PS3 has the texture smoothing, but for me, it just makes things too blurry on most games, I dunno, I actually prefer it off. I didn't even think about that... I am assuming from Otter's statement, that PS2 doesn't do anamorphic 16:9. So it's not like the Wii in the respect that you can even have anamorphic 16:9 with composite cables, and stretching the picture with your HDTV's scaler. However with the letterboxing I suppose you could zoom the picture in, to cut off the black bars on top and bottom. At any rate, component is the way to go, even on the Wii, it was quite a noticeable improvement going from composite to component. Since you have the newer PS2, I'm pretty sure there is a "progressive scan" and a "widescreen" option in the PS2's BIOS menu, the menu you get without having a disc in. Though the holding "X" thing may still be necessary, I don't know. Yep, 40GB PS3 has no BC, but as I previously stated, there may not be a humongous difference, if any, between seeing the PS2 games on an actual PS2, and seeing them on the PS3 with BC, on an HDTV.
