vavius
I can run GTA IV in the menu just fine, but when I change any of graphics settings I get a black screen and when I begin a new game it crashes right after the loading screen. Here is my specs: Intel Core2Duo 6400 2.13GHz Asus P5B board 4GB ddr2 800 Sapphire Radeon HD4870 with T-RAD2 GTX cooling Windows 7 x64 ultimate While it's displaying a black screen, the monitor resets like it is changing resolution. I've tried to reinstall GTA IV and different display driver versions (9-12, 10-6, 10-7). When GTAIV crashes Windows event log is registering a "warning: display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered". I think it can't be overheating, because all other games (such as Batman: Arkham Asylum or Colin McRae DiRT2) are runing without any issues like falling in BSOD or black screen. The most strange thing is that with Windows XP SP3 and 10-6 display driver GTA IV runs fine. Any ideas? mkey82
Make sure to uninstall the older ATI drivers and then try installing the latest one again. Also, check this http://www.overclock.net/ati/700290-amdkmd...-recovered.html and this http://www.techmonkeys.co.uk/Thread-displa...fully-recovered They suggest either a hardware or OC problem. vavius
After all those uninstalling and installing driver attemps I get freezes and errors ("display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered") while watching youtube videos. I used ATI Catalyst Install Manager to uninstall drivers. Is there any other tools to completely remove all ATI drivers and soft? I have never overclocked anything. I still think there is some kind of a conflict with drivers and Win 7, because there aren't any problems in my old WinXP install. I'll try a fresh Windows 7 install soon. If it wouldn't help then I'm going to try my HD4870 in another PC to assure that it isn't a problem with my card ) UPD: completely uninstalled ATI drivers using Driver Sweeper and installed the latest one again. Now there are no more youtube issues and I can even change video settings in GTA IV, but I still get black screen of Doom after loading. However, warnings in Windows event log are gone, now there are only notifications "amdkmdag 62464 (61)"... BlurryS
Yeah there is something with windows and drivers...cause this stopped & recovered errors occur only in Vista and Win7, i have read something and its something in registry that causes the conflict, but then again, I am using 5770 with Win7 and no errors, tho when i was using 3870 i got those errors with some specific games, like Hawx, Splinter Cell Conviction, and even with Cabal Online lol. With Cabal it was so bad that i stopped playing it cause i got that error in every 30 sec. Try reinstalling windows or something, cause im quite sure its windows problem Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/457292-black-screen/#findComment-1060090484 Share on other sites
