Haha, ok my game cant even load streets on this game half the time. Like literally, the street is missing and everyone is walking on sunshine. So supposedly this game isn't really optimized for the computer. Especially after about 10 years of 3d game design, I am surprised these guys couldn't come up with better stability than a pile of sash. I want my money back because I spent almost $1,050.00 some dollars alone just to play good games like this. And if you notice the $50.00 at the end is GTA 4, in which I basically wasted 3 years of working for something I will probably never have. Hard to believe it, but my computer is even better than expected of me... and it runs in the worst ways. My game doesn't load buildings, streets, rooms, textures, and worst of all... it can barely play on the highest settings without being a choppy little pain in the A$$. So what I have to say about this game is a -50 because it runs horrific at all settings and it sure isn't performing this way on the console versions. If my computer is compatible enough to not slow down to 1 fps every 10 seconds then it would be a blast. Now, I am sure I am not the only guy in here that spent up to $1,000.00 for a good computer. But damn, why such a b!tcH if 50% or more people are playing this game with worse computers at 50-60 fps. I need help lol!!

Btw, to add some more information. I noticed the higher I put the settings on, the more bugs and gfx glitches such as missing buildings and leading up to streets. When I actually turn my graphics down to low, it still gives me stutters for some reason. I figure that the game isn't optimized for four cores. But now that I look back at the system specs for this game it all looks like quad core would be the best for a game this active. I have tried different tweaks such as enb series etc, and even those are causing problems too. Such as AA not working, and when I try to Force Anti-aliasing on it seems to make my interface resolution bigger than my monitor and I can't navigate at all. With shadows etc maxed out, things become only a little more choppy... but the stuttering occurs to be in longer periods and worse frames per second. But when the stuttering stops for about 10 seconds it runs smooth enough for me to pass and move on with. I don't mean to sound rude, but I don't understand how such a big video game could literally run so horrible on a computer optimized for it's very purpose.

I may not be "qualified" enough to judge your PC specs, but.. i doubt anyone being able to play on Highest settings on a 9800 series card. You need about 1.5GB VRAM to "max out" the game for starters, and a more powerful card.

 

 

Aside from that, you should be able to run it perfectly smooth on High settings, i suppose you tried out the commandline already, if not then try it, maybe it will solve atleast some of your problems with the game.

 

 

Your PC is way better than mine, and i am running the game slightly above Medium (All options on medium, texture filtering maxed) and its 30-40 fps most of time.

But I can actually run this game on High or Very High settings, but the rendering is horrible and never finishes nor starts. I am not totally sure what to do about it, instead of norestrictions and nomemrestrict. Should I try and assign a certain amount of memory instead?

On topic: The reason why you have such terrible performance is likely because you are using an RC. The RC is an unfinished version of Windows 7; it was only meant to be tested. However, you should make sure you update all of your drivers. See this guide showing how to do it properly. If that doesn't work, you can try reinstalling GTA IV.

Yeah, I had some seriously extreme problems on the first 2 or 3 patches and then it started getting better in increments. But this last patch was actually better, the only thing is my game doesn't seem to stop stuttering every few seconds or so.

The new counter that estimates the VRAM usage after patch 6 is wrong. All that does is uploads textures to RAM and they're fetched on the go. The GPU has to copy the texture on the fly from RAM to its VRAM, and process it. That causes popins due to latency. Get a video card with 1GB of frame buffer, run it at high textures and draw distance at 30 and popins should be gone. Get 2GB for maximum fa**otry.

Well said, this actually seems to be the only game I know of so far that has given me problems due to my amount of video memory. But if my gfx card is actually optimized to give more than 256-512 mb then I am stoked xD

 

However, how well do sli's work with this game. Because an SLI of a 9800gtx+ would be unbeatable due to the incredible clock speeds!

Sli actually hurts performance and causes the shadows to flicker. Stay away from Sli or Crossfire for this game.

The GPU architecture might not be optimized for 1GB because of 256 bit wide bus and because its not powerful enough to run at high resolutions and AA where it would take up more than 512MB to the point of being playable.

The day Microsoft gives a hell about one person with win 7 rc dated back is the day Billy Mays comes back as the president of the u.s. In fact, if this mofo viometrix knew how to read... he also would of found out that windows 7 rc is only not being hosted on main websites anymore. Owning windows 7 rc is a completely different scenario, if you have windows 7 rc there is a expiration date and that was like a month after December. The WAT security on Windows 7 RC is what keeps Windows 7 RC LEGAL and not ILLEGAL, therefor as long as your WAT system is on and still running. You are as safe as being in a padded room, so I don't get this guys problem. Still having Windows 7 RC isn't illegal AT ALL, neither is downloading it. HOWEVER, pirating a serial code or some bullsh*t like that. And unlocking the GENUINE windows 7 is ILLEGAL, and I never have done that because I don't have to. I just set my date back, and eventually the WAT is going to activate again. 512MB VRAM cards can not run this game on max, even if you circumvent the limiter you will get massive texture pop ins, or even most of them won't load at all. That is if you exceed the limit.

 

You need atleast 1GB Vram to be able to set "Highest" options, and 1.5GB to get highest + all sliders on 100.

 

 

That said, the card must also be able to actually run those settings, obviously a 9800GT or ATI equivalent wont be able to.

I've actually managed my way up to having anti aliasing at 4x and still have perfect texture and reflection quality and medium settings for the rest. And going back to the Microsoft guy, I don't really care what you do on here... I am a guest and I am asking anyone Else's help.
