I believe all of the GTA's, from III to IV are in the same era imo. Some examples, in your Bohan safehouse, the CD's on the floor say OG Loc, with a picture of him on the cover. The old mansion up in Alderney, I read on the Wiki somewhere that that is the mansion of Don Leone, (right name?). Of course, these could just be Easter Eggs, but I still believe they all take place in the same era.

Anyways, they are all GTA games. Some characters (mostly radio people or music artists) do seem to exist in GTA III universe and GTA IV universe, but they aren't exactly the same. In other words is that they aren't completely different, but they are majorly different. If you say they are completely different, then you're saying that Cluckin' Bell, Burger Shot, Sprunk, Biglogs, and many other fictional companies that were in the GTA III era don't exist in the GTA IV era. That would mean that Niko never gets to drink Sprunk, but instead he's drinking air as it's just an "easter egg".

I've always thought of GTA IV being to the GTA Series what Halloween H20 is to the Halloween series.

 

In H20 the only Halloween movies that are canon to it are 1, and 2. All the movies in between are not recognized by H20.

 

This is what I think has happened in GTA IV. Although it carries over many references from the old games that's exactly what they are, references.

 

I think R* done this, so GTA IV could keep in touch with the old games, but be connected to them by nothing more than referencing well known brands/pop culture from the previous games.

On neat thing to notice is that not only does playboy have claude's clothes in his appartment, but also playboy has a special yellow coloured patriot. If anyone played gtaIII they will remember that Ray gave Claude a yellow patriot as a reward and that is also the only vehicle actually given to claude throughout the game. So therefore his only actual vehicle is a yellow patriot being a second one of Claude's pocessions that playboy seems to have. Is this more evidence that playboy killed CLaude?

But one thing I know is that Claude's suit in GTA IV, is merely a fully black tracksuit, the one that the Albanian Mob uses. And some green pants.

Playboy X didn't kill Claude, because they are living in different timelines.

 

Clothes that we can find in PBX wardrobe are just a joke for GTA III fans as IV is kind of remake of III.

 

Ray Machowski didn't give Claude yellow patriot. Car I always received was either green or pale blue.
