kaisersoza_66
GTA4 could never really compare with MW (for player numbers). even for the old COD4 the lobbies are full EVEN NOW!. As a GTA enthusiast, im fully aware of the downturn in player numbers in GTA. There are only a few moments in the day we can trully say its worth playing GTA online. Personally i think GTA is a much harder game to master. i can play GTA now and without much effort kick-ass (DISALLOW enabled). Even with just me against large numbers. Wheras with MW, you either have to play the sh*t out of it to match your kills with your deaths. or camp with a sniper rifle and perhaps finish (e.g. 20 kills 18 deaths). So perhaps its more noob friendly?, i dont know. thats just one opinion to hopefully get the ball rolling. plz tell me ur opinions? P.S i dont want grief about my bad gramer im trying my best Edited August 17, 2010 by kaisersoza_66
Booze
There's still a lot of people playing GTA. The problem is NAT restrictions and not being able to choose which game to join. You can only join one game and that's it, you're stuck with it. If that game happens to hold someone with a strict NAT then you're screwed, because not many people will be able to join that game, only those with an open NAT. One possible workaround is to add a lot of people you meet (that are somewhat cool) on GTA to your friends list. The more people you have on your friends list that play GTA, the more choice you will have when joining their games. Unless you're on PS3 of course, because then you can't join people's games... Another workaround is to change a preference, but that's a sacrifice you have to be willing to make.
SweatyPa1ms
Me and you were having this very conversation yesterday booze (I say that, but it was just be ranting on with myself). Its because MW2 is like crack to most people. I used to be really good at FPS games like call of duty but stopped playing because I couldn't do consistantly well due to faults in the game and that old chesnut of the majority of people playing it being retards. I dont know why its so poplular, its pretty much common knowledge that its a terrible game. I think its because they've made it so addictive with all the unlocks, challenges and leveling up. Modders aren't helping player numbers on GTA. It would help if Rockstar gave some kind of support. The biggest problem is that most gamers these days aren't very sociable, are very hostile, competetive and trigger happy. It's not a good mix... especially when introducing new players to a game. Wait a few years until the next GTA comes out and the hype will return. People will wake up to this zombie/prestige/achievement points bullsh*t bandwagon and start having fun again, it may take a while but it will happen eventually. Half Life 3 is yet to come out and when it does, its going to blow the sh*t out of everything... again. Hopefully games developers will get some inspiration, see what they could be achieving and put down the handbook. Its all EA/Activisions fault really, they've been around since the beginning and to put it simply, are manipulative, money grabbing fat cats. They dont care if a game is good or not, as long as it sells. Thats probably why most games seem unfinished, because the publishers are rushing the developers to meet targets and get them on the shop shelves. Edit: I know i'm a stoned up raving lunatic but its the truth. Edited August 17, 2010 by SweatyPa1ms
Nitty Don
My personal attraction to MW2 over GTA is the sheer number of players playing it . With GTA I have to wait at least 20 - 30 mins to get a decent lobby in a TDM and then if one team starts winning they all back out !! with MW2 its pretty much non stop gaming, also there is no waiting in lobbies as the game has a countdown starter . something GTA should look into, also the fact that you can't piss about swapping teams in the lobby speeds things up (again take note R*) Also like Sweaty said the unlocks/challenges/titles keep it entertaining
GTAking33
Nitty R* have already taken notice in TBOGT DM/TDM they added kill streaks and in RDR they added challenges and prestiges also once you get 100 head shots with a certain weapon you get a golden version of that weapon they even added "hardcore" and "veteran" modes. once the next GTA is out they will have incorporated that and more. Brown Sugar
it's quite simple, call of duty isn't more popular than gta 4 it's just that there are a lot more annoying little kids out there and they prefer call of duty to gta because they don't understand what gta is really about, they think it's just running around killing people and stealing cars when it's more than that, it's a spoof of complete cities and states and there is a lot more detail to it besides killing people
Madmonk420
Kaiser Perhaps they prefer the speed of MW2 to GTA.Mw2 Is very intense in terms of games speed and of course the online set up is better than gta.R* made a mistake when they allowed players to change teams in the lobby. It just results in all the 10*s in one team ect.I would say that the add ons for weapons ect give players extra incentive to keep playing.Like they other guy pointed out RDR is much better online experience. If I wasent doing as well at gta id have just switched to RDR its actually a better game because of the depth of the online mode.Gta seems neglected compared to it.Its a shame really as GTA is and always will be R*s ace in the hole. I would expect that next one really will be something special.I would think that the online will be more in line with RDR and that will keep them coming back for more. CryptReaperDorian
Simple Gta takes skill Mw2 doesn't That's so true. All you have to do is play for hours on MW2 to get a good gun. When you do, then killing just becomes that much easier. Hell, Battlefield even takes a lot more skill as you have tanks and air vehicles to deal with. However, GTA takes a lot of skill to master. MW2 is just way overrated.

Legacy-666_
I think theres 2 kind of gamers out there. Those who purely like running around killing everyone and those who enjoy a bit more of a variety in their gaming. Gta has that range of things to do, jumps, racing or even sky diving. I borrowed MW off a mate over a year ago (still have it) and have honestly never played it online. GTA never ends up being the same game twice.Where as MW seems to be the same game after game.I watched my cousin play MW for half a day and he ranked up to level 35. COD is for the kids that are still in the stage of "kill everything you see". When I was younger I used to mostly rampage in GTA games, but now I do more than just that. I play the story, explore everything, test everything out, and so on.

A J
I play both, but will always prefer GTA, I actually don't want the next GTA to be like RDR, RDR tries to hard to be like COD I think people get put off by GTA because of the bugs, the good players always team up against the new comers, noobs are kicked from high ranked games , autoaim is default when it should be disallow, waiting in lobbies is boring, what you unlock for leveling up is pretty rubbish although i admire the naked lady . MW2 is quite instant for MP, and I normally just play search and destroy which isnt mindless shooting and killing, although you do get the camping noobs, which is in my opinion inevitable with a game mode such as search n destroy. AndyGanteks
IV/LaD/BoGT eh... On PC people are disappointing with lack of modding and support and constant patches to prevent it, the others are quitting because of those modders cheating, then bad performance, gfwl issues and disconnection issues, hard and annoying to install, etc. On 360, for trainers/mods/hacks whatever it's called, disconnection issues, preferences, lack of video editor, slow lobby's, lack of awards for leveling up, lack of things to do in free roam compared to SP, etc. On PS3, for the late DLC, lack of mods, former BDB Bug, preferences, disconnection issues, also no video editor, lack of things to do in free roam compared to SP, inability to hear people with mic if you don't have one, slow lobby's, lack of awards for leveling up, etc. Plus the fact that ever since IV era games came out there hasn't been any huge updates to the main GTA Forum(this)where the fans are located, unlike there was when VC and SA were released. (that isn't really a reason why, but i'm just saying. ) Fix all this for next GTA and you get a perfect game. While in MW2 you jump in quickly, rarely disconnects and you just point and shoot kill kill kill and a bunch of unlocks etc etc, which is generic and sucks and so does MW2 and it should be burned together with everyone who plays it.
