Dingleman
Yeah there is just something about Liberty City in GTAIII that really kept me coming back for more. It is the only setting in any GTA game that I feel was actually built around the games mechanics, and what the game was for. There are unlimited spots to have shootouts, easy roads to speed up and down on and a simple formula for unlocking things on each island.

smellincoffee
My next-door neighbor and I used to play GTA2 obsessively: we'd stay up all night playing around with it, so we were both excited when he got GTA3. I remember running around in front of the hospital hitting people and cars with bats, amused that they fought back. I didn't get into GTA3 directly, though. The first GTA I puchased was Vice City, and I STILL play it even though San Andreas has more stuff to do. I did purchase GTA3 later on though, and enjoyed the missions. I liked working for the Leones, driving up to Salvatore's house and listening to the music. The mission where the player has to snipe for 8-ball was the first one I found difficult, and I remember feeling like a bad-ass when I finally managed to take everyone down within a couple of seconds. And then, my first semester of college, I made a couple of friends who liked GTA3. We'd meet for supper every night, and four out of five times we'd wind up quoting GTA3's commericals and Chatterbox until we were exhausted from laughing. smellincoffee
cars with bats It's impossible in 3 :E Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but I remember running around in front of the hospital swinging a baseball bat at everything I could. It's been nearly a decade, so it's not as though the memory would be perfect.
