I think R* just wants to take a break from GTA for a little while. Consider how Agent was announced quite a while ago, and still there really isn't any new about the game since R* revealed its title. The next GTA may be in the same situation. We might get the title soon, but information is still far away it seems.

Also, whoever said GTA isn't milked has to look at this. A GTA is released just about every year when you include ports. I'll just list the GTAs by original release years.

GTA - 1997

GTA London 69, GTA London 61, GTA2 - 1999

GTA III - 2001

GTA VC - 2002

GTA Advance, GTA SA - 2004

GTA LCS - 2005

GTA VCS - 2006

GTA IV - 2008

TLAD, GTA CW, TBOGT - 2009

When you look at this, there has only been four years in which a new GTA hasn't been released (five when you count 2010).

Here's one thing I want to talk about. How come people always consider TLAD and TBOGT full games, but they never consider the London expansions and Stories as full games? You needed the GTA disc to play the London packs, but they had completely new maps and vehicles. GTA LCS and GTA VCS both had full storylines, new or different weapons, new gameplay, new or different vehicles, and I believe a different game engine than GTA III and GTA VC. Now TLAD and TBOGT have new storylines, new or different vehicles, new or different weapons, and new gameplay. However, they still ran on the exact game engine, and they used pretty much the exact map as GTA IV. If the London expansions and Stories aren't full titles, then GTA IV's expansions are definately not full titles.

THERE WILL BE GTA NEXT 100 PERCENT SURE! Well rockstar is making other games (Max payne 3, RDR, Agent, Bully2) because they want to show how great games they can make.

but lets be serious:

ROCKSTAR GAMES= GRAND THEFT AUTO!!!!

rockstar would be nothing without it.

If GTA really is over I recon we're all gonna have a riot on our hands. Well I'll assemble the troops of dedicated GTA fans and we'll arm ourselves to the teeth just in case it's really true.

Another tidbit: "Agent will be for games what GTA III was - the first thing this big since GTA III" - Already giving us something else to look forward to? wow.gif

Are you serious? GTA titles have always been big and usually wouldn't come out until 3 or 4 years passed since the one before it.

I seriously doubt Rockstar would drop the Platinum Bar of Awesomeness, of video games because they're 'worn out'.

me too, but to be clear, it went III -> VC less than a year later -> SA less than 2 years later -> IV 4 years later.

Hopefully, within the next few days, they announce VC and as 1 minute became 2 minutes = 1 hour in IV, perhaps 2 years later the second game of IV comes out, like the second 1/3 of III came a year later... I hope. :x Hopefully, it's not going to take as long as IV and SA took... so far, it's been long enough for SA... and yet no announcement... even though the engine is already done and only would need whatever they wanted to add back in fixed for rage.

But, yea, I'm serious, both that 1: I don't think they will stop making GTA and 2: that those things did make me wonder nonetheless tounge.gif It seems like all this talk about R* "not needing" a new gta, rdr and agent, max payne 3, among other titles - just, make GTA dammit R*. We probably won't like max payne as it is totally a new series. Agent will probably just be GTA with spy weapons, which would be the only way to make a game "better than gta iii was for gaming" is to do the same thing, in IV tech, with more higher-than-criminal activities like the end of SA. So, let's all just hope GTA was more than just a "sell on controversy to develop our cinematic framework for games, then we can make the games we really want to make"

Let's hope GTA stays their flagship... because it would really, really suck if all the big under-the-tongue stuff was just for $$ and selling on controversy :x Let's hope GTA is "real" and not just good marketing to Hollywood's audience..

rockstar - you DO need a new GTA every year if you can manage it... F all your other games they truly suck compared to GTA, sorry, they are nice, but they suck next to GTA and really most of us probably would be happy if you would just rename yourself to GTA devs and do that, episode after episode, city after city redone...

Honestly, I hope they don't do this, they don't have to milk this franchise like Madden, I hope they stick to GTA every 2-3 years.

Also, Max Payne is not a new series, hence the 3.

I just am one of the people who feels like GTA maps are always wasted on a single story when every ped could have an episode. Like, what a huge waste of a map. Episodes made it better, but that map could use more episodes too. They should keep improving this city, redo the other ones, keep improving those, and start basing games there as often as TV shows and movies are in those places.

Wanna talk about revolutionary? That's some revolutionary stuff right there - they need to start using these same cities for more GTA episodes, more gta games, and more games not even just GTA. Really, I wish they would tounge.gif

Can't stand waiting for my version of monday night TV when a new 'episode' only comes out exponentially longer and longer times apart - 1 year, then 2, then 4 years - I am not interested in RDR bully manhunt crap for years to come, if you ask me, bully shoulda been a new GTA instead.

I don't think it is called milking... and madden (truly) NEEDS a new one every year to have proper stats and stay current, that's not milking. I don't think it would be milking to make sure GTA keeps coming out episode after episode, sequel after sequel. Sure, I like their other projects, but really, it has been way, way too long since BoGT came out and they haven't said anything yet except that it's over, whether they meant it like that or not, they really shoulda announced something by now, and I really hope they are not more worried about a PS3 exclusiveA Agent than a cross platform game biggest series of all time GTA :x In other words, what kind of idiots are they that they will work on a game for one platform instead of the one we really want?

And max payne IS a totally new series because it has totally pulled down pants and sh*t all over the first 2 that Remedy made. It is in Brazil and sunlight and crap - that's not max payne. Highly doubt the comic book novel style is coming back either - it's gonna be loosely tied to the REAL max payne games I would bet mate, in other words, wholly new series, barely recognizable. No more trenchcoat. No more detective work in the noir new york... That's not max payne... that's some sh*t cheesy home alone III taking place in the wrong part of the world and wrong time of the year, if you see my comparison.

Yes, I am bitter from a lack of GTA news tounge.gif

i have certain confidence with doing the next gta in london, but i wouldn't know what to do in mainland europe

                                                                    - Sam houser

Sounded like he was being hypothetical in that quote. But if you believe he means the next GTA is in London, it will sound like it. Vice versa, too.

Not quite sure what you're pointing out there. Help me out?

I was suggesting that you wanted to be clear, but then used the most confusing metaphor ever. Atleast I think it was a metaphor.

more of a drawing of parallels between III and IV than a metaphor tbh wink.gif

As in, III is to IV style. 1 minute = 1 hour in III, 2 minutes = 1 hour in IV. Niko pretty much just listens to orders, drives around killing people, and has trouble with english. Claude basically takes orders, drives around killing people, and does not speak. Niko is HD claude tounge.gif So, in keeping hope, I hope that VC (or wherever) is announced very soon, because with the patterns between III and IV so far all being "doubled", this is the one that is being slacked on - why I actually worried enough to post, cause I are wanting GTA tounge.gif lol

Too many developers these days, (no doubt due to pressure from publishers), are milking their cash-cows too much. I don't think that R* are finished with GTA yet but one day they will make a GTA that is as good as they will ever make it - not perfect, but so they can't beat it and I don't think that GTA is too far away.

When GTA is as good as it ever will be, it is then I want R* to throw in the towel, so to speak. I'd rather remember R*'s last GTA as the pinnicle of open-world gaming than a pathetic game in the shadow of its former glory - take a look at the Driver series, "Driver" was amazing, "Driver 2" was good, "Driv3r" was okay, "Driver: Parallel Line" was absolutely rubbish, a large pile of steaming fertilizer, (then again, the game's not even good enough to be used as fertilizer). The creators of Driver should've finished their games on Driv3r, probably even Driver 2, but they didn't and know the whole series is stained by the rubbish that was the last and third game.

Fortunately, after a nice, relatively long break, Driver is back and it actually looks quite impressive - that's why GTA has remainied good, they take their time instead of churning out game after game after game. If it doesn't come out until 2012, no problemo, but look at the COD series, the first two were excellent, MW was okay but all the others are just imitations of the original revolution in FPS, hell, even Halo is an example since the first one was great but it went downhill from there.

Devs may not be able to top a game they made before, but when 4+ years pass and you blow off the dust on your favorite game, and have your nostalgia moment... You'll have wet dreams about devs making a new one...

Honestly if R* had plans of not making anymore GTAs I think they would made an official announcement. I just don't see them letting their most popular, and profitable series of games they've ever made simply fade away, without giving their long time fans an explanation.

I know for a fact I would be extremely disappointed in R* if they decided to end the series, without any word. Atleast if they give us an explanation the blow wouldn't be as bad.

I've been a fan of the series since the first GTA, but have often asked myself how long can it last? I think it's a testament to R*'s dedication to the series that even after 13 years people still want more, and more. Unlike franchises like NFS that mainly still exist because of its name. To me GTA hasn't reached that point, because people genuinely want to see more from GTA. Alot of people would rather see NFS put to rest. That's the difference.

Anyway I wont deny that GTA IV has put a dent on GTA's reputation with the mass disappointment it caused, but I don't think it would spell the end of the series. Not even close IMO.

They should keep improving this city, redo the other ones, keep improving those, and start basing games there as often as TV shows and movies are in those places.

I'd like it if it was like GTA IV, one main game with 2-3 Episodes as DLC, instead of say, 10 games on the same location, it would just get boring after a while.

That time is used to better improve the game, rather than churning out crap every year like certain franchises do. Plus, those other games are made by different R* subsidiaries. So get real, do you think they're gonna have only one milked franchise every year, or a multitude of franchises full of blockbuster games?

I don't think it is called milking... and madded NEEDS a new one every year to have proper stats and stay current, that's not milking. I'm sorry man, but you clearly don't know what you're talking about here, Madden & most other sport games, release the same damn game every year, only thing new is rosters, a slight graphic improvement, maybe a new venue or two and one gimmick on which they sell the game, that's called milking a franchise, this kind of stuff they could add as dlc instead of selling the exact same game every damn year.

On the other hand, you seem to think (or want) R* to create games in 6 months or less, give it time, the more time they spend with it on development, the better it will be. Plus, I can't blame them if they want to take a break from GTA, GTA IV was a huge game, they might just wanna try out their luck in a different franchise.

And max payne IS a totally new series because it has totally pulled down pants and sh*t all over the first 2 that Remedy made. It is in Brazil and sunlight and crap - that's not max payne. Meh...I see your point, still it's an actual sequel, not just some re-imagining.

STats. Stats change for madden games, and aside from slightly better games, that's the only reason sports fans buy the new versions: New stats. Rosters too, but, new stats wink.gif

That's a really big part of it.

Also, you know, in vegas, they supposedly run like 10 xboxes at the same time playing CPU vs CPU, then bet on the teams that won the most if they won enough - the computer simulation helps to pick a winner. Yea, it's shady, but it's also only supposed. But if people really do do that in the higher echelons of sports betting, then a year old game with improper stats and rosters would be useless.

Try to think of the "real reason" a game is made. Ignore the fans, who only get to play it to fund the next one - think of the "real" reason they give you multiplayer even (to teach robots instead of test 10000000 lines of code, just let the humans teach it 1000000 people online? It is possible - not saying it's a fact, but it is possible) wink.gif

Stats can be update in a yearly patch. Also the "real reason" these games are made is to rape your wallet.

Why add a simple stats, roster & uniform updating DLC when the average chump will buy a new game for $60?

I understand they do this for the money, but that's the difference between R* & other developers, you know each GTA game is going to be a masterpiece because it's been crafted by time & experience, EA & Activision just copy-paste their games each year.

that is true, quite true - i cant deny there is serious business involved. Never thought of a patch either tounge.gif Good eye. It would be awesome and bring more quality to sports games if they patched per-game to update stats and probabilities.

I pretty much agree with you everywhere else, that's the only reason I didn't comment on the other things - you said it well. I think it would be cool if say the next GTA came out today, then an episode for it, then a new Liberty episode, then maybe the next GTA comes out and the first two get episodes again etc.

Yeah NFS has been on a declince, starting with Carbon. Hopefuly Criterion can turn around this NFS curse (Criterion made Burnout: Paradise, now they're making NFS: Hot Pursuit)

But back on topic; GTA makes a lot of money, and makes a lot of gamers happy -- It aint goin' no where!

Then again, what if Rockstar goes bankrupt and/or the rights to GTA get abolished or something crazy?

sh*t! That'd be the crapiest day ever sad.gif

Then again, it doesn't snow tto much from September to November in lower NY. A little in late November, but winter really hits in December.
