GritEngine
I for one believe Vice City and San Andreas are coming, but that is beside the topic at hand. I just want to start like that to make it known I'm not saying this is likely, I'm just airing some things I noticed when combing over the finer details of GTA IV, taking in all the NorthStargasms as anyone does in Liberty City. Then I loaded a save of the final mission, because I like doing that one from time to time (Jimmy P branch), and it dawned on me when hearing the opening intro in the Juliette and the Licks song's lyrics... "It was a thousand pound weight" Suddenly it hit me - Liberty City, It's Over, Prepare for the Explosion. "Liberty City it's over" is the explosion cries at no more GTA's? Was it a 1000 pound weight to deliver this game? They "took a break" supposedly after IV too... Was the expectation that high that they did this, and now it's like "Just, no more"? Counter notes: Again, this is not an insinuation that these, among other things, mean no more GTA, I'm just saying - is it a possibility that my thinking "LC it's over" means: "Next Stop: Seagull Shores" could be too optimistic, and maybe I missed them "throwing in the towel" all through this game? That kanda sux if so. Further, what if the song, that plays in the credits, the juliette and licks song 1000 pound bit is related and it's like "we did the game we wanted to make" as they said - why keep making them if you have made the one you meant to make other times? And, if III was 1 game VC SA included (as they said themselves), doesn't IV require these places too before it Ends? Okay, it is not the clearest thing in the world, but do you see what I mean? What if they are "done" Edited August 16, 2010 by GritEngine

alexrdh
Yes, IV's Liberty City is what Rockstar wanted it to always look like. But seeing how much of a huge success GTA is, it'd be silly to end the series because 'they done what they wanted.' ...but other than that, that's a pretty excellent theory you found. TheBlackProject
You better be wrong or somebody's getting shot. I think the OP's explanation is saying that as there was 3 games for the GTA III era (that doesn't include stories and the fake unneeded Gameboy Advance game), and while GTA IV's Liberty City had three games, it is just like the III era, it must be over. Which ultimately leads the era to close to an end by now, meaning that the GTA IV era is already over. In that case, I will shoot myself in the head. QwertyAAA
No, you know what? That's bullsh*t. You can't just disregard three games in the main series and two auxiliary games (Bully and Manhunt) on a whim. You can't just say that three games, all with redesigned cities, 60-mission storylines, and overhauled engines designed specifically to make the fullest use of underutilized portable gaming consoles, are less of an asset to the series than what amounts to... two 30-mission expansion packs. This is bullsh*t, plain and simple. Edited August 16, 2010 by QwertyAAA

When I was 4 or 5, I would play countless hours of hot and popular PS1 games such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Croc, Auto Destruct, etc and actually enjoy it. Maybe because my life wasn't so sh*tty back then, now I just want make spray paintings just so I can make friends at school, since I suck like sh*t at sports like Soccer. drscot
rockstar have already said things suggestive of another GTA, like: i have certain confidence with doing the next gta in london, but i wouldn't know what to do in mainland europe - Sam houser
GritEngine
Well, I think it was Dan that said that, and it wasn't that he had confidence in doing London, but that aside from the US and London, they wouldn't know how to do other places. I don't think they will take american crime "gta" and do it in an unamerican place. But still, I dunno, been a long, long time since any gta news ;x
Jabalous
GTA Next has been confirmed by different sources . The most notable and trustful source is Dan Houser's interview with Time magazine in late 2009 , when he said that the script of the game will be approximately 1,000 pages in length . There's no any kind of evidence that supports the claim of there's no a GTA in development , let alone that GTA is the most profitable franchise for Rockstar . The two primary questions that should be asked are , when has Rockstar North started working on the game ? when are they going to announce it ? LordDastardly
Too many developers these days, (no doubt due to pressure from publishers), are milking their cash-cows too much. I don't think that R* are finished with GTA yet but one day they will make a GTA that is as good as they will ever make it - not perfect, but so they can't beat it and I don't think that GTA is too far away. When GTA is as good as it ever will be, it is then I want R* to throw in the towel, so to speak. I'd rather remember R*'s last GTA as the pinnicle of open-world gaming than a pathetic game in the shadow of its former glory - take a look at the Driver series, "Driver" was amazing, "Driver 2" was good, "Driv3r" was okay, "Driver: Parallel Line" was absolutely rubbish, a large pile of steaming fertilizer, (then again, the game's not even good enough to be used as fertilizer). The creators of Driver should've finished their games on Driv3r, probably even Driver 2, but they didn't and know the whole series is stained by the rubbish that was the last and third game. Fortunately, after a nice, relatively long break, Driver is back and it actually looks quite impressive - that's why GTA has remainied good, they take their time instead of churning out game after game after game. If it doesn't come out until 2012, no problemo, but look at the COD series, the first two were excellent, MW was okay but all the others are just imitations of the original revolution in FPS, hell, even Halo is an example since the first one was great but it went downhill from there. Star-Lord
These are the lyrics to the ending song. It was a thousand pound weight Moon down on the sun I lost you sleeping Took off with my fun You'll find the door on the other side, other side I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside the cage I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside You crawl like tipped wine Cheap tricks, dirty calls Watching paint dry is good for the walls Its good for the walls Silence is deep never what you'd think I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside the cage I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside the cage I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside the cage I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside Pressure is building up It was the great escape Foiled guards left in wait I changed, I came undone Inside the cell I won I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside the cage I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside the cage I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside the cage I'll waste, I'll waste, I'll waste inside ------------ These lyrics describe the plot of Steve McQueen's movie "The Great Escape" They went through hell to escape just to end up back in the jail cell a few minutes after. (Just a coincidence.) I don't believe GTA is over, Liberty city needs Vice City and San Andreas to be whole. I predict the next GTA will have both those cities in one game and I'm sure it wont be called GTAV. GTAIV: Vinewood, or maybe GTAIV: San Fierro Heights, GTAIV: Los Santos Nights. Either way what ever they name it -- I'm sure it will include SA & VC at least as DLC. 3.

arsenal_fan
Highly doubt it as Rockstar needs Grand Theft Auto to eperiment with making other games, eample would be L.A Noire which is building up to be one of the most epensive games ever made. Now if that flops, Rockstar would need something like the next Grand Theft Auto to get their money back. Unless they can make a series which is just as good as Grand Theft Auto (which I do not think will ever happen), then they will keep making them until they make a rally awful one or they can not think of new ideas. Dnero
If there's no GTA, we'll still have Agent. It's dubbed "the spiritual successor of GTA", look at Red Dead Redemption, the 'spiritual successor' of Red Dead Revolver, it's f*ckin amazing... But I'd prefer one more and maybe last GTA from Rockstar.
Coral_City
You guys are funny. Some of these posts are disturbing, joking or not, suicide over a game? Please. Interesting theory though. GTA IV Roleplay
It can't be... They said they'd continue... they wouldn't leave their fans hanging, that's just death. There must be another GTA coming soon . I can't see it ending with just GTA IV... In my opinion R* wasn't all there when they made it, even though it is a masterpiece. I just hope that Vice comes next, or at the least another fantastic GTA game, or as another said: "Somebody's gunna' get shot"
