mikkenugent
Hi all, I am very very new to this and I hope someone can help me i have recently decided to try my hand at creatin a video game on microsofts XNA Game Studio software but I have no idea what I am doin...There is a few tutorials on the web about this but none really break it down in terms that a new comer can really understand (even though the XNA software is supposed to be used for beginers on up), I was hopin anyone could help me in my hunt to try and learn this art some. I also know games like GTA are buildt by many many people on a team, but I would still like to try and go as far as I can, if I can complete the game thats iceing on the cake...I really just want to learn the art lol. trip
I'm a huge fan of XNA. All the little games I release as GTAF community games are written using XNA. I have been writing little video games for over 30yrs now, and I can't tell you how much I enjoy XNA. XNA has enabled me to be able to knock out any little 2D game in like a day or two. Did you do their Getting started with a 2D game tutorial? That would be a good place to start. My suggestion is to start very small. Even something as simple as pong is very rewarding when you write it yourself for the first time. Feel free to PM me if you want/need any assistance. I'm not one of those freaks that keeps my source code secret, so if you want any of the source code for games I have done I'll hook you up. But really...start small...very small. If you can get a square to move around on the screen with some keyboard input and collision detection you are 80% there. You also may want to pick up a book on video game theory just to get the non programming basics.
