I rehosted 2 different settings files with resolutions changed from the default...

I linked to them HERE

Hopefully one or the other will get you past the game start and you can reset to your desired settings...

Put the file in your VC User file directory (should be under my documents)... and rename it to gta_vc.set and start up the game

Please let me know if it worked..

I wish you luck.

ok new problem:

I got the exe to bypass the check but I can go in display options or start the game.

anytime I goto display options it pops an error :unhandled exception :c0000005 at address 0055251a.

it happens in the star game when it shows liberty city 1998.

its running in compatibilty win 98/me

EDIT:

Yes If you were wondering, it is cracked.I cracked it so it would skip the resolution check.

What is "star game when it shows liberty city 1998"??

Also looking back over your specs... is 96MB of RAM correct???

Surely you have to have more then that to be running virtually anything in XP....

Have you gone through your task manager and killed virtually every process and service and then tried??

Low memory may be your problem...

I'm not much of a VC PC guy (I really just know the basics)

Hopefully someone else with more expertise will chime in...

Ok

(1)"star game" was a typo, I meant in the start of the game just as it finish loading and it shows the cutscene,it hangs at the beginning of the cutscene and says the error message

(2)Well, actually in total it's 128MB. it is shared between VRAM(32) and RAM(96)

(3)I kill processes I don't need at the startup of my computer.

I don't really think its low mem, but thanks a lot for your help smile.gif

You only have 96MB system RAM, plus an SIS video card(which is integrated and as such is shared vram with the system ram)? That's the problem, you do not have enough system ram to run the game...I had an old XP Home laptop that had an AMD Sempron processor, 256MB ram, and an SIS video card w/32mb Vram, and the game usually froze/lagged a lot-even after upgrading the ram to 1GB, it still froze a lot. After seeing your last post just now, 96MB system ram is not enough to run the game, you need at least 256MB to run the game well enough to make it "playable". Just a heads up...

But if you want 640X480 resolution, right click on the VC.exe and click the compatibility tab, and check the option for 640X480 resolution, then click "Apply" and "OK" to exit. and run the game...but chances are, it more than likely will not run until you upgrade the Ram, as 96mb is not really enough for VC to handle...Just a heads up.

Yes, because the main menu is just as graphics intensive as the real game sigh.gif

On an XP Home system with 256MB ram, and 32-mb SIS video card AND an XP Home system with an SIS video card w 64mb vram and 256mb ram, both struggled to get 25fps-most of the time it was 20fps max.-5-10fps with Fraps recording, and the game froze A LOT, so I had to save often(after each mission). After I upgraded the system ram to 1GB(the maximum it said my systems could handle at the time), the fps improved very little and the freezing eased up a bit, but not much. The SIS/VIA video cards are really bad as far as gaming goes-even the Intel GMA cards are better-they get 30+fps easy(and those too are Integrated with shared memory).

So, your best bet is to add more Ram AND get a new video card(both are pretty cheap now a days) luckily. Just a heads up...

  • 2 months later...

Press right click on GTA Vice City (not in the directory, but on Desktop). Then press on the last. Then there is: "C:\Programme\Rockstar Games\GTA Vice City\gta-vc.exe" choose the first of both and type behind it -32bitdisplay -> "C:\Programme\Rockstar Games\GTA Vice City\gta-vc.exe -32bitdisplay" and don't forget to press the spacebar between the text and -32bitdisplay. So now test it again... I don't know if this works.
