Take a look at the earliests screenshots/beta of the game, and you will see Claude. Take a look at those early 2000 Claudes drawing on Gouranga. Novy was never meant to be the protagonist. Maybe they made him just for fun, maybe he was going to have a cameo role, who knows. but he was never EVER EVER supposed to be the original protagonist. He wasn't planned on being the protagonist because he's far less detailed than peds, let alone major characters. AND he wasn't shown in any of the beta pictures, which didn't even include the texture style novy's model has. You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.
