GTA Isn't Serious To Me

As you all know, the Grand Theft Auto series has always been full of jokes and spoofs. Seeing as it's so full of jokes, I personally see the Grand Theft Auto universe as, well, a joke. Don't get me wrong, I love all of the GTA games, but I can't take it seriously when it's so full of humour.

i dont know if you knew this but gta is supposed to be kind of a joke it's a parody of whatever place it is based on like gta iv is a parody of new york, sprunk is a parody of sprite, weazel is a parody of fox etc. gta isn't supposed to be that serious

I agree with you, I like the games, but it all feels like a joke.

 

GTA IV seemed like it was a kid in grown ups world, it was a serious atmosphere with a bunch of little pseudo sexual jokes and other random bits.

the only jokes in gta 4 were mostly from the radio, tv shows, ads, peds on the street, the internet, things like that. but the whole story isnt funny at all. take for example niko mentioning about killing children in the war, or how luis went to jail for killing a teaher that felt up his sister. pretty serious if you ask me.

i think they could tone down on the jokes. only keep the really funny ones. but keep the radio and tv the same. those are optional so they could be as funny as they want. plus, an in-game talk radio station and tv would be boring if it wasnt funny

thats why i love listening to talk radio. like when some guy calls in saying he thinks some latino sitting in a subway(i think it was a subway) was a terrorist. the talk show host told him he was part of some latino terrorist group. so the guy shoots him.

Anyway, I think GTA has a fairly good balance of humor and seriousness. But it depends on your idea of "humor". I mean, the sex references, as usual, are endless. But they're really not that funny.

I've always loved GTA's humour, because IMO it isn't "juvenile" like for example Saints Row's humour. Actually I feel dirty saying that, because I never found anything funny in both Saints Row games. To me they failed hard in that category.

 

I guess what I'm saying is GTA can be funny, without being it toilet humour.

i never take gta seriously. there have maybe been one or two movies that have made me feel sad or somethin. but GTA, it was always a joke. one day, driving around in san andreas, i come upon a bus that glitched in my way and my bike couldnt push it. so i got out, sprinted into it, and it moved . realism. GTA will beome bad if its realistic, f*ck realism. why cant we have the good old days, where you could walk through airplanes, hide from police in interiors, go to hidden places, wear ourselves out looking for bigfoot, and looking forward to beating gta3.

I agree with that.

 

GTA is a satirical game, ironic, acid yet fun at the same time.

 

But I don't think the whole game is a "joke". Not even for older GTA Games, while I love fantasy brands (Sprunk, etc) the roads, the day/night cycle, the weather and the weapons are as realistic as they should be. I know, we had some ridiculous stuff before but it's always made with realistic colors and the most realistic physics they could do in each game.

 

When I'm driving a car in the streets of GTA III, Vice City, SA or IV I don't feel like I'm driving in a joke world, rather than a sarcastic point of view of the real world, and I love it.
