game keeps on crashing!

hey guys.

 

I'm experiencing loads of troubles with GTA4. Let's start with the beginning hopefully you will be able to help. Ihave never been able to create the ''live'' profile. The link never worked, and since i couldn't save, i created an offline profile, which allowed me to save my games. but it seems that fixing that problem caused another one. Since i can save, the game keeps on crashing for no reason.

 

When i play i never know if i'll be able to finish a mission and save it before the application shuts down. Windows 7 is unable to find the source nor a solution to the problem. I get the message a message about some fatal error and GTA 4 forced to be shut down.

 

Now i was at this mission when Dimitri sends you to kill Faustin at the Perestroika. I got killed so instead of redoing the mission with fewer amunitions and without the bulletproof vest, i decided to go in the pause menu and load the last saved game (just before getting killed the first time!!) Then all hell broke loose. it crashes as soon as i hit the pavement and get in a car to go buy ammunitions.

 

Guys i really need your help on this because this game is addictive. i'd really like to be able to play it through to the end.

It's a retail copy. I'm running it through a core i5 LG laptop... NVidia geforce 330 card, Windows 7 32 bit.
