A White CJ Posted August 8, 2010 Share Posted August 8, 2010 They should make a pirate series, like how they have the modern Grand Theft Auto series and the old western Red Dead series. Here, I will address some issues. LOCATION Spoof the Caribbean. Instead of a realistic Cuba or Hispaniola, parody it in GTA fashion. SHIPS AND STUFF Instead of a Gang, you have a Crew and a Ship. You can buy various Ships, and recruit people to run them. The way you "move" a ship is by sailing it, as if it was just one person. In battle, you command the ship during normal combat and, if there is a boarding party on either ship, fight as a single person. Your Crew consumes food/water/ammunition, so you have to get more. DISTANCES Sea could be drastically sailed down. Really, there's not much of a problem with this. Maybe a trip from parody-Puerto Rico to parody-Cuba takes 15 minutes of game time, 20 minutes, maybe even 30 minutes. Thus, your "voyages" wouldn't be common, they would be planned out and sparingly. WANTED LEVEL I don't know how this would be implemented, but if a Wanted Level was used, you could have one for land and a "Manhunt" for sea, the latter being harder to gain and harder to lose than a Wanted Level and basically be where navy ships prowl the waters for you. Anyways, I'd like to see it happen, obviously it wouldn't be part GTA, instead a different series, but instead a kickass pirate game powered by RAGE. Pirate customization, ship customization, maybe even crew customization? A vast Caribbean environment with Hispaniola (including Tortuga for Haiti side & Catalina for DR side), Jamaica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Barbados and countless little islands to expore (maybe even a hidden Kraken) or imagine this: raiding a fort, taking over it and turning it into your ultimate pirate paradise. R* would come up with something so badass that RDR will be putting on an eye patch to look as cool as its new cousin. R* just seems to kind of know how to make a game play just right, and they're not afraid to push the boundaries a little. I like how even though they get a bad rep with the media, they don't make their games seemingly in an effort to be even more edgy. Which is why they would be able to make the best Pirate game yet. Everyone else holds back too much. Pirates are no civil, clean-mouthed people. They pillage, rape, and kill. They're merciless, not pretty boys with long hair and a clean British accent. I've wondered what other genres and themes they could get into, too. They could potentially make the best game of any theme, but it might get old after a while. Going from GTA IV to RDR, you realize they have the exact same controls and it's easy enough to label it as "GTA IV on horses." Although once you play through it a little more, it feels like it's own game. But how many games would it take before we see each game only for their similarities? They only exist on the Malacca Strait and the Gulf of Aden. If done right (i.e. by R*) it would be a great game, this type of open ended pirate game has been done before, but if R* added their touch then it wouldn't be boring, the only part I agree would be the slow sailing ships, but then again their not gonna chart the entire Caribbean sea are they? Instead they'd make it smaller or make the ship sail faster, it's called suspension of disbelief, plus it's not like your going to be the only ship at sea, there could be merchant ships you could raid, army ships, and even other pirate ships that attack you. I understand that maybe you don't like pirates, but don't hate on an idea that you don't agree with especially when you don't have anything good to improve it. So is having horses instead of cars, a Gatling Gun instead of a Vulcan Minigun, and no aircraft at all. And DOES IT MATTER that they've created games like this? Why the hell does it change anything? There's games like Grand Theft Auto, but you still play this one! Rockstar is the specialist in this area, they need to create a pirate game now that they've done a modern game and a western game. xNewtype Acex gets the spirit of the idea. You "stretch the truth" to make it fit. Gangsters don't fly airplanes, but GTA: San Andreas still has them. Niko Bellic would have most likely been imprisoned had he been released after getting arrested, but he gets off scott-free (minus a few HUNDRED dollars and weaponry). GTA is not a realistic game. Like XNA said, the seas would be full of opportunities: you could go on a voyage, raiding and plundering, and every once in a while go back to port to blow all your money on booze and whores, or you could stick to the islands and terrorize towns and fortresses, mount treasure hunting expeditions. Back to the matter of weapons. Sword-fighting would make it better: when armed with sword, you could do multiple moves. Think of how "pwnsome" it would be to fend off twenty Spaniards with a cutlass. And at a distance, you could still have pistols, but they don't have to take as long to load as they would in the real world. I can't think of a single game, other than Empire: Total War, that portrays era weaponry realistically.
