Drift-Kingz
Your seriously going to listen to those retards? I mean it does sound bad but try to make it BETTER. Come up with a great idea and publish it to the public and see what WE think. Don't just give up because some 2 retard's were like: NO.... JUST NO.... -_- I wanna hear what you got man. Come up with a great idea and show us. Just don't do it in the 1800's..

BrownBear
Definatley not GTA but a game like this would be great, i'd set it in London.
Kwandilibro
It should be really simple. There were no cars, so how could it be GTA. There's no "auto". Maybe for an RDR like spinoff, but definitely not GTA.

bobgtafan
That's why we have games like Red Dead and LA. Noire to be set in earlier time periods. If you want a game set in the 1890's go play Red Dead it's set only 20 years later. I doubt GTA will ever be before the 50's since that's when consumerisum really started on a wide scale in America. QwertyAAA
Dude, whats it gonna be called Grand Theft Horse???? There weren't even any cars back then. Technically, yes, there were. Motorcycles, too. It could work, but it probably wouldn't be very good. Anything before the end of WWI wouldn't be industrial enough.

undo
The discussion of "Historical GTAs" is not new, and now and then people come up with threads like this, asking opinions about a 1890 GTA, a Middle Ages GTA, or even an Ancient Rome GTA. Naturally, such games couldn't be called "GTA", but historical GTA-like free-roaming open-world games would certainly be fabulous. Actually, take the Assassin's Creed games - they're very much like historical GTAs. And they sure are fabulous. And if by "1890s GTA" you were thinking about cowboys and stagecoaches, you have Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption, which I hear it's fabulous as well, and its game mechanics are probably similiar to GTA (I figure). (side note to OP: if you are so touchy a person, maybe you shouldn't hang around Internet forums...)

That is true - Assassin's Creed utilizes many of the same mechanics as Grand Theft Auto, being a sandbox game, so there's certainly a possibility that, if as many possibilities as are available are utilized for the sake of the gameplay, a GTA game set between the beginning of the production of the Model T up until the beginning of WWII could be rather good, if the atmosphere is done correctly - anything in the decade past that is Mafia territory and past that is simply GTA set in a recent decade. Little William
I just couldn't believe this topic is not locked yet. 1890s would not be a right period for GTA for a few reasons: Cars or motor vehicles was not that proficient at the period. It can't be a GTA if there is no cars R* already produced a game based a similiar period and it is called Red Dead Redemption (RDR). So what's the point of R* producing two similar games. Wouldn't it be stupid of them? Just request a bloody lock for this topic FFS.
QwertyAAA
Seriously, it's a matter of choosing a period after extremely rapid industrial growth, i.e. WWI or WWII. Before WWI, there's no real chance of pulling off the GTA gameplay (i.e. vehicular - the sandbox can still be created)
