Snow, is it possible.

Snow is among the top requests I have noticed on the GTAV wishlist topic, but it has got me thinking.........Is snow actually possible?

Now please note Im fully aware that loads of other games have had snow, RDR, Uncharted, last gen Bully and the upcoming Killzone 3.

My problem is that all those games the snow is always there, you start a level/chapter or travel to a high area (RDR), its just there.

The gta's all use a real time weather effects, how could they make it so that it starts snowing, have it build up then gradualy melt? Is that possible?

I know if the next Gta has a moutain etc, there could easily be snow present towards the summit, maybe you could also have it as a cheat code. eg type in the code and boom! snow appears.

Im not saying its impossible, that would be naive of me, Im just thinking from a technical standpoint is it possible to have real build up and melting of snow on city streets that looks convincing?

Discuss..................

I'd be awesome, I love snow! But I think we should have a powerful computer to this, when it rains my game lags a lot, imagine when it snows cry.gif

Honestly I don't think so, I could be wrong though.

This is probably your best bet.

Wrong, edumacate yourself.

GTA LCS had a snowstorm, and RDR (GTA: Wild West Edition) had snow too, I'm sure GTA NeXt could have snow too.

If I'm not mistaken; In Red Dead Redemption, whenever there is rainfall it fills up cracks, crevices and ditches to form puddles and then after the rain they dry up over time. I'm sure they could do this with snow.

I know snow is possible, im more concerned in actually having it fall, build up slowly, stay then slowy begin to melt and dissapear.

I proberly am too(Im no expert), what i mean is though that in gta, you go outside, you can clearly notice the change in the weather, it would be sunny, then it would start to get overcast, then start raining and the ground would become shiny and slippy, then it would stop and it would start to get brighter again, how would snow work in this kind of system. It uses no load screen, this all happens as you drive around etc.

Games such as bully, you finish a chapter, its autum, all the leaves are brown and so on, the screen blacks out and then it says your starting a new new chapter, ch 3 or whatever. its now christmas so there is snow, but it just appears. we don't see it snowing. It just appears, then you fin that chapter, its gone. im sure that it was just a texture change.

get me? icon14.gif

Really? I have some investigating to do. Thanks icon14.gif

I think snow will come when a canadian city is parodied for GTA.

and i strongly think a gta with a canadian city could come out.

I think they can and will do it in the next GTA. R* are always trying to improve on the surrounding enviroment with every new game. If i remember correctly (it's been a long time) they were actually planning to add snow along with full seasons in GTA IV, but ended up scrapping the idea around halfway through production.

I've seen it in other games. And in GTA IV when it rains the ground and objects slowly start to get wet and then it slowly dissapears when the rain stops... they can surly make it white instead of a reflection on the ground can't they? I would expect snow in GTA V along with other improvements to the game enviromnet as well.

well if gta v is set in vicecity there is a 99.9% chance that there will be snow, though it would be cool to have it

I'm sure they'd make great snow if they had the time. The problem is that what you guys are talking about would take up alot of resources, and you have to remember that they're also developing physics, graphics, gameplay, and activities. Again, it's possible, but it takes too many resources. They have to fit all that sh*t on to one disc you know.

I assume you meant a 99.9% chance that there won't be snow if it's in Miami?

I don't imagine snow taking up that much space compared to everything esle already in the game.

And it doesn't have to be super-realistic-amazingly-detailed snow, just a basic snow environment. Make it similar to the rain, how the ground slowly get's wet as the rain falls and then slowly dries/melts. R* are constantly improving on these kind of features, with the new latest version of the R.A.G.E engine and the improved physics.. i would think it's more than possible to add a basic snow effect to the city and/or country in GTA V.

And it would also be a really cool effect to have in the game.

If that's the case then I say go for it. I think that there should also be a season system in V. Winter would have the snow, fall would have changing leaves, and summer would be sunny most of the time. And I don't mean just because of story progression, like in bully, but actual changing seasons. The only thing that wouldn't change would be the year. Of course, this would also require an internal calendar timer system in the game's programming, one which wouldn't take its' time from the XBOX360s' internal clock, but rather from the clock on the cellphone or something. You know, game clock?

TenaciousD.

As long as there was ice once it melted, I'm all for it.

Driving would be crazy hard and you'd fall over if you ran.

it would be great. imagine the clothes, car handling, shootouts where you hide in snow, on the beginning the bridges could be closed because of ice on the road... but I wouldnt like snow all the time. if the state would be such big a san andreas, then one of the citys should be snowy almost all the time the others sometimes.

Maybe a frozen river?

sly.gif

And then i could aim a rocket launcher down and shoot and then a big hole in the ice appears!

and then i push a ped into it and watch him freeze devil.gif

Think it is possible but i don't know if they will include it. If GTA 5 is in Vice city then no snow, unless as a random fun cheat. But then, why do all the physics work if its just for a cheat that might never get used?

No, it's on both PSP & PS2 version, it's the last of the car salesman side-missions.

Proper snow is totally impossible with the current console generation. You'll have to wait for the PS4 with Snowprocessor™ technology.

Bully doesn't have snow, always.. it's in chapters of the game. So a level is redesigned with a "snow" look and effect.

They could easily do it so if you save your game during the in-game night time then when you wake up in the mouring, there could be snow already out on the ground and it could continue snowing or not. Then, over time, it could just all fade away or something.

If that's not possible, then I think they're should be a period of time you leave the city it's set in to go somewhere else for a mission. Then the home city could be snowing when you get back, then you have to leave one more time to complete business in the other city then when you come back, it'll be gone.

meh, just an idea.
