When Im flying or driving on a boat, you'll see the old trashed big boats flickering very heavy. And did you notice the people will be grey when you are too far away from them? Jimbatron
Yes I get this. It is most noticable in a chopper - i.e. moving fast and objects that are in the distance. This didn't happen at all to me until patches 6 and 7. So if you don't want to access multiplayer, the simplest solution is to run an earlier patch. In my topic below mkey82 suggests having two installs, one for multiplayer one for single player. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=455734&hl= That of course means you still have to put up with it if you want to use multiplayer - which I do! If anyone has another fix, I'm all ears.
GritEngine
The higher your resolution, the less you will see this. It is not 100% avoidable, one example is the window if this building: In that building, there is a night-window polygon over the building, but not far enough out to avoid zfighting (actually, it matches position, and not texture, so zfighting is unnavoidable in this case, an artist's mistake, easy one to make) In the case of water and such, well, the further away you are from something the less accurate it is in 3D space (this is across the board, in GTA or not) and in the case of GTA you are so far away from many objects that you can expect some flickering of the shores or flickering between UV and hard edges of LOD land pieces of the whole city. Higher the resolution, the better that is too, but it's not 100% avoidable. So try not to fret too much! It's just a sign of how major LC really was for gaming, and there is nothing to do up there anyway - that's why we have heli's and not space ships Edited August 5, 2010 by GritEngine

viometrix
FLICKTERING is not a word, flickering is. but as the Weirdo. pointed out with the link is it is something you cannot avoid, it is a very clear and decisive explanation, so what more of an answer do you need? even i get it and im on a high end rig, its a fact of life. Weirdo.
And did you notice the people will be grey when you are too far away from them? That one's actually normal. It's a LOD model that's used when peds are seen from a distance. I've seen these gray LOD models doing yoga, for example.

JohnZS
Just thought I would keep you informed that I have reported this bug to nVidia's driver team. I think it is some sort of z-fighting or polygon offset issue, would be interesting if anything can be done to fix this, as videos rendered from GTA IV do NOT show this problem, neither does the PS3, and neither does Ati Radeon cards using Catalyst 9.1 John
