maxopower
Just noticed this, and just wanted to mention how really really sad it is. Were the f*ck has creativity gone, and are all comedy posters going to look like this now...
Tyler
So, instead of actually watching the films and giving your personal opinion on the Actual film, you are going to criticise the movie poster, which no one will see because they will probably watch these films boot-legged anyways? Well in that case these posters do look similar. But, for future reference, talk about the actual films too eh? I was hoping for a preview of Dinner for Shmucks here. You know what I got? Disappointment that's what.

To bad there is no hint to how they are in this thread. My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens

I won't be going to see it at the theatre, but I will be going to see the expendables!
Andyzoot
I'm no Film Poster expert but different genres tend to have their own set of rules for their posters that they've stuck to for the last 20 years or so. Comedy posters usually tend to be a close up of the main 1 or 2 characters in a pose that sums up their character in the film. Example Action films often go with the whole floating heads thing, like in Iron Man or Top Gun Horror posters almost always have a picture of a woman screaming, a close up of some kind of gore, a weapon or a silhouette of the killer in the film such as in Scream or Nightmare on Elm Street It's just the way marketing works. Which do you think is more likely to get people in to see 'Dinner for Schmucks', Steve Carell's gurning face? Or something like what Hitchcock's films tended to have? Marketing. Fnorg
That might be worth a watch (even though Stiller is annoying as f*ck). Are you kidding? There's nothing worse than watching old farts in cheaper by the dozen comedies, and Ben Stiller doesn't make it any better. And why can't posters get the names in order? makeshyft
There's no such thing as comedy anymore. Unless I'm missing the joke... I can't think of a single modern comedic actor. I mean, there are a ton of people listed as such, but last time I checked, comedies were supposed to make you laugh, not sit there feeling annoyed to the point of frenzy. Look at parody films these days. They're worse than the films they're spoofing. There is something inherently wrong with that.

But, I have to say some movies tend to get me where I thought they would not, in terms of comedy, anyway. Will Ferral is alright in most of his movies, and I hate to admit it, but I think John C. Reily did a wonderful parody of popular music throughout the last forty years in 'Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story'. Adam Sandler is living down to his past on SNL, although Funny People was a good movie, it was really more of a drama than a comedy. Musical singers like Jon Lajoie or Andy Sanmberg are pretty good at getting the essential comedic thing down, but the only thing wrong with them is the fact that Musical Comedy is only so good. At one point it will get tiring. But hey, I find Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart to be hilarious as well, albeit for the ironic fact that their left-wing comedy is true.
