GnatGoSplat
I'm using GTA IV PC with patch 1.0.7.0, XLiveless, Xbox 360 controller. On two different PCs, I can't get controller settings to save. I want Auto aiming ON, and Vibration ON. I have to set it every time, and when I exit the game and restart, they revert back to their default of OFF. Is there any way to force these settings always on? My graphics settings and other settings can all save, it's just the game controller that won't save. mkey82
Try deleting the controlmap.dat file in the savegame folder and then set everything again.
GnatGoSplat
Thanks, but it didn't work. Deleting that file did make it create a new one, but it still didn't save the auto-aim and vibration settings.
mkey82
Try unplugging the game pad and then see if it saves those settings.
chinagreenelvis
I'm having the same problem. The suggestions here did not resolve it. I'm trying to set the right thumbstick to inverted, but the game resets it to "off" every time it closes.
chinagreenelvis
Turns out the problem is Xliveless. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know of a solution?
mkey82
Don't use xliveless? Or make sure you have the latest version.
GnatGoSplat
I was using Xliveless as well, so that must have been the problem. Haven't played for awhile to know if the newest version fixes the problem, but I was using the latest version at the time.
radioman
Also, If you have IV and the EFLC installed, there is a glitch to where the settings will be shared between both games-ie. If you are playing IV and set the settings one way, then you go and play one of the EFLC games, that one will default to the same settings as IV and vice versa...I used to have that problem, is how I know-this was confirmed on the Original Retail(DVD) version of both games...Just a heads up. That sounds like a good thing to me. I'd want the settings to be consistent across the board... but I really just want the settings to be there at all, and Xliveless breaks that. Guess I'll just have to live with Windows Live.

The latest versions definitely don't. Seeing as how it's been a year now, I doubt a fix is on the way.
chinagreenelvis
Setting the control config with Xliveless installed and then loading the game without it results in correct loading of settings. Setting anything with or without it and then loading the game with it installed results in defaulted control settings. This basically means that Xliveless is preventing the reading of the control configuration but not the writing of it. The controller configuration normally gets stored in the file C:\Users\*user*\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings\SETTINGS.CFG If that file is deleted, the controller configuration defaults. Xliveless creates a different GTA IV folder under C:\Users\*user*\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\ I tried setting the config without Xliveless then copying the Settings folder to the new location, but that did nothing to help. My next step is to start analyzing the Xliveless sourcecode to see if I can get to the root of the problem.
KillerEST
How could I change controller (not keyboard/mouse) settings? I'm using Logitech Formula EX steering wheel in EFLC.
mkey82
You can change some settings in the game options.
KillerEST
Still..I couldn't change the buttons. By the way, EFLC version should be 1.1.0.0 // Maybe I should try this: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=379477 ?
