Benzoboy
Well, I'll put it simply, my dad's job at the moment is quite s**t, and basically, he can't afford to pay £500 a month for his car, so he's buying one outright, to keep costs down. This coincides with my dad being nearly 50, can someone say, midlife crisis? The plan is to get my Fiesta working so my dad can use that on his daily commute, and buy something else for other times. Criteria is; - Under £10k (Very maximum) - Quick (Anything under 6.5sec 0-60) - Seats 4+ Yes, it's really that open. Ones we're interested in at the moment - TVR Cerbera - Toyota Supra Twin Turbo - Subaru Impreza P1 Take a look at these... http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1893766.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1895814.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1733796.htm As always, suggestions please
Starion
Here's two, pretty predictable suggestions: http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1792602.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1910589.htm (bit high on the budget, and very rare) And here's some not so predictable suggestions: http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1793030.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1824014.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1482651.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1841927.htm EDIT: Don't get a cerb, as awesome as they are and as well maintained as that one looks, your dad will be spending a lot on it every month. + they only have two seats? Edited August 4, 2010 by Starion mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno.
*MURDOC*
Nice suggestions. If they had Skylines in this country, Id take that R33 in a heartbeat.
Benzoboy
The Cerbera is a 2+2 Nice suggestions, we were looking at E36 M3 Evos. An M5 is a good car, but it seems like a bit of a waste if you get me, it's my dad's only opportunity to get a "Mid life crisis car", an M5 can come when he retires, as by this time the E60 will be falling into that price range, you see where I'm coming from? Nice cars though Nice suggestions though, the Evo 8 doesn't really interest my dad, he's always preferred Subarus, and he never really liked the new Evos anyway. RS2s are stretching the budget slightly. An R33 is a good buy. Some more; http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1932420.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1552489.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1879696.htm http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1688856.htm - Not this exact one of course but a similar one, not as fast as first specified but hey, it's an AE86
Starion
The Intergra Type R and the Delta both look really really tasty. Also remember a Delta would be an investment, they are only going to go up in value from now onwards. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno. Benzoboy
Indeed, that's one of the points I'm using to persuade my dad, I suppose the same could be said for the AE86?
Illousion
Indeed, that's one of the points I'm using to persuade my dad, I suppose the same could be said for the AE86? Arent those cars really uncomfortable to ride in though?. Noisy and stiff as all hell, but as long as there arent any longer road-trips planned I guess one could live with it. Lurch
Kind of funny how cheap "big engined" thirsty cars are over there. Would snap any of those cars up in an instant over here if they were that cheap. The TVR would be sweet but if you buy anything British, you really need to get 2 of them so you can drive one while the other's in the shop. Emotion98.3
Like I said, it's a mid life crisis car, let's try not to be concerned with practicalities Get a Nissan Maxima then, there a really nice, sporty looking car. there not too expensive if you find an older one such as a 2002-2004, And if you find the right dealer they can be found for under 13K (USD), 10K (Euro). I mean no need for a German BMW or Mercedes...I personally think there over-engineered (maybe not to you, but thats a matter of opinion). A Honda or Acura would be great car too. Why bother getting an 80's/90's car with the features that come base in a 2000's car for the same price?

With all due respect, are you taking the piss? Umm...? Anyways, I really don't see why you guys would want a old sports car then to have a reliable modern car for the same prize...Really I don't understand, Even though its a BMW or a TVR (Never seen one in my life, except on Gran Turismo :|). But anywho (Not trying to start an argument, just trying to state a valid reason) why you would want an older Sports car that may or could break down on the highway when for the same price you could get more and the sureness of not breaking down on the highway to or from work... Not to mention Nissans (OK, I'm a little biased...) can go 200,000 miles for fun if you keep them well maintained. (Also mentioning Toyota Corolla/Camry's, Honda Civic/Accord's, Subaru's Legacy's/Impreza) Now i know you're in Europe and all, but they sell those vehicles just like they do here. Maybe that's just my way of thinking? I'd rather have a 2004 Chevy Malibu then to have a 1992 BMW M5. But hey do what you want, I mean it's your fathers choice in the end right? You're quite obviously not a car person so why are you in this section? Honestly, recommending a nearly new fwd average joe sedan in a topic for suggestions on a mental, fun-to-drive, practicality-be-damned, driver's car? WTF, gurl? BTW: my 25 year old BMW has racked up over a quarter mil of miles and is still going strong.

My dad's aiming for 4 seats at least so we can at least go out as a family once in a while, even if the rear seats are cramped to f*ck. leik oh em jeez!
Actually Reliability comes before Sporty my friend. Did you even read the topic? This is about a second car to be used as a "fun to drive" sports car, not a primary "drive to work" everyday reliable car. @Benzoboy: I'm thinking a mid-90's Impreza would be nice. Lurch
I'd recommend an E28 M5 (predictable) or an E24 M6 but the price of them is just as outrageous over there as it is here. This one barely makes the price cut. I'd recommend an 8 series but it's a bit hard to find a decent 6 speed in that price range. Found a 6 speed 850 that barely makes the cut. Can the LPG converted sh*t still run on normal gas? Edited August 5, 2010 by Lurch
Emotion98.3
Well you guy's are talking about "Going out to dinner" and how you father is making less than he was at his new job and all...So i figured Practicality would be the way to go, now if you're dad has a mid life crisis, then OK, go out and buy a beemer or Mercedes Benz. But coming from an American, that was the sorta response you were going to get. Talked to my step dad about the subject and I asked him which would he prefer and he said obviously the 2004 Camry, but he also said from a European Standpoint it would be the other way around since they are more used to BMWs, TVR's, etc... Alright :\ You win.
