You should keep your sliders pretty low to get decent fps.

I have a very similar system to you and have all on high except reflection resolution very high, night shadows medium, texture filter quality x4, view distance 24, detail distance 34, vehicle density 48, on, on.

 

I also have the following commandlines:

 

-reserveApp 0

-memrestrict 786432000

-refreshrate 30

-frameLimit 1

 

I plays very smoothly, even driving fast.

Hmm, I don't know about you guys. I am on a Q9550 @ 3.8Ghz and a GTX 285 and I am on all Very High besides shadow, which is set on high, my night shadows are set to very high and my draw distance is 30 while my detail and car density is both at 80. Vsync is on and Definition is too and I am getting a solid 40+ FPS

FInally someone is honest about GTA IV and proper hardware. Good man nemesis.

 

Dude, you will run this game besides the possible exception of the shadows and nemesis said and you will Easily get 30+ FPS as you asked for.

 

You might not get sixty, but you will well exceed 30 with that rig man.

Well with my PC, i have all settings on Very High, except the shadows, i set shadows in high then i have 40 on view distance and 100 in the rest. and i have Af x16.

 

 

And my sistem is all on stock, Cpu and VGA.

What patch are you on? And what drivers are you using?

Its not that Nvidia cards run the game better, just that most of time ATi users get some weird issues, which SHOULDN'T appear in any game anyhow, probably because nvidia bribed everyone im joking but who knows?

Thanks for the replies guys, got my new parts, got the games installed. Now time to try it out. The auto config for my system throws up a similar result to what Iceburg runs which is interesting.
