Late Night Shows

I'm not sure how many of you watch any late night talk shows, but I figured I would see who does.

 

Anyways, there are six major players who have their late night shows:

• The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC
• Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC
• Late Show with David Letterman on CBS
• The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on CBS
• Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC
• The Conan O'Brien Show on TBS (starting Fall 2010)

I was wondering if any of you watch any of the late night shows and if you have a preference for anyone in particular?

 

I used to watch Leno a bit in high school and I used to listen to his monologue on the radio when I was driving to school. I always thought Leno had a good monologue and I really loved when he did his Jaywalking segments on the show. As well, I always enjoyed the Headlines segment. I did, however, lose a lot of respect for Leno after the whole NBC battle for The Tonight Show which basically saw O'Brien leaving NBC, because he left the time slot for The Tonight Show should not be changed because it has been in that same spot since the days of Johnny Carson. However, Leno still has a strong fanbase.

 

I've never actually watched Jimmy Fallon (because he's on the same time as Craig Ferguson, whom I am a huge fan of) so maybe it's something to consider. I heard he's okay, but nothing spectacular.

 

I'll generally catch a bit of Letterman if I have nothing else to watch, since he's on before Craig. I like Letterman because he has a real sense of character and has no qualms about being honest and up front. I also have to give him serious credit for admitting to his affair with the staff member last year on national television - that took some serious balls. I also like how he adapted some skits from Johnny Carson as sort of an homage (i.e. Carnac the Magnificent).

 

I watch Craig Ferguson every night (or when I can). I think he's absolutely hilarious and there's something different about him than the other late night hosts (besides the fact he's Scottish). He certainly has no problem taking a jab at himself and like Letterman, he had no problem being up front. He also has no trouble showing his true emotions, like on the episodes he eulogized his father and his mother, as well as when he said he would no longer rag on Brittney Spears for her problems because he himself had had problems in his past and almost committed suicide (it takes a lot to open up on air like that). Ferguson has some great monologues and he's certainly very knowledgeable in current events (probably one of the reasons why the monologues are so damn funny). Plus, the fact he has a robot skeleton as a sidekick (Geoff Peterson), what's honestly not to love?

 

As with Fallon, I never watched Jimmy Kimmel's show. I only know him from being the sidekick on Win Ben Stein's Money.

 

Lastly, as for Conan, I can't say I really watched his show much, but the clips I have seen around YouTube were pretty good, so maybe I will have to check out his show when it comes to TBS in the fall, since I never watched Late Night with Conan O'Brien or The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.

I watched Conan almost every night since the beginning of Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He's a funny man, and really got better with the more experience. NBC f*cked up. Just look at the ratings of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno this year. Supposedly the lowest ratings since 1992, when Leno was handed the reigns. They had an excellent show with Conan, and then they panicked.

 

I am eagerly awaiting his new show on TBS. Hopefully we'll see the return of the masturbating bear, and Triumph.

TDS/TCR isn't funny anymore since Obama took office lol, they really don't have much to say. Can't wait for the new Conan show, but until then I only watch Ferguson

I don't get to see any of these late night shows where I am apart from when I went on holiday to America a couple years ago. But I do get to see alot of clips on Youtube etc. I am a big fan of Craig Ferguson's stuff, like Icarus said, he's very up front about everything and I'm not sure if it's just me, but the late time slot kind of gives his show a bit of intimacy because it seems a bit scaled down compared to Letterman or Leno which I really like.

Yeah. I can't watch it here either but almost all talkshows get uploaded to usenet everyday lol.

I like all of them in some way. I used to really enjoy Leno until he expressed interest in retaking the Tonight Show from Conan. At that point I lost most respect for him, although I can understand the fact that even though he's up there in terms of age he still wants to work.

 

So yeah, Conan is the best in my opinion. His show always seemed to entertain me the most, even when I was a little kid and didn't necessarily get all of the jokes. His delivery alone was hilarious. And while I hope they keep most of the stuff from his previous show, I also hope they use the same theme song that they've used for both of his NBC shows, although I doubt they will.

His show is going to be on CTV in the fall, so you don't have to worry about getting TBS. However, I think it's going to be on really late on CTV because of some deal they already have with Jon Stewart.

Ah well, I only caught some episodes (Season 2). Thought it was as good as MANswers. About the same thing as every other Spike Original.

I was never a fan of Leno or Letterman. Leno always seemed so fake and sh*t scripted and Letterman is too f*cking into himself half the f*cking time and such a f*cking pretentious bastard that it makes late night greats, like Carson, roll over in their graves. I never really liked Conan. He just never hit my funny button. Some of the sh*t that he did, just the little stuff, like pull his hair foreward to look like Donald Trump, his retarded white guy "I'm Sexy" dance where he cuts the strings holding up his hips, his sh*tty, half assed impressions, and all the other little sh*tty bits he strings together to make a show all come off as a sad attempt to carry a show for another hour. Most of you would call that funny. But when the guy is on his "Late Night" stage, every one of his movements, sayings, and actions piss me off to the point of throwing a brick through the screen. Aside from playing the hosts on late night shows, Conan and Leno are great guys. Just not people I like on Late Night shows. Letterman could take a bullet to the head. The only reason I watch his show is to see the musical acts.

 

On the other hand, I f*cking love Craig Ferguson. I sh*t a brick laughing every time I see him.
