Don Garcia
The fantasy thriller, starring Katie Holmes ("Batman Begins"), Guy Pearce ("The Proposition," "Memento") and nine-year-old Bailee Madison ("Bridge to Terabithia" ), is based on a 1970s telefilm. The script was co-written by celebrated filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro ("Hell Boy," "Pan's Labyrinth," "The Devil's Backbone") and Matthew Robbins ("Mimic") and is being directed by Del Toro's protegee, Troy Nixey. The film tells the story of Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child, who has just arrived in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes) at the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the sprawling estate, the young girl discovers a hidden basement, undisturbed since the strange disappearance of the mansion’s builder a century ago. When Sally unwittingly lets loose a race of ancient, dark-dwelling creatures who conspire to drag her down into the mysterious house’s bottomless depths, she must convince Alex and Kim that it’s not a fantasy—before the evil lurking in the dark consumes them all. Del Toro is producing alongside Mark Johnson ("Chronicles of Narnia," "The Notebook," "Rain Man," "Bugsy"). William Horberg ("Milk," "Adventureland") is executive producer. The trailer: I jumped. MC.
You made a signature of the movie yet, bro? When the girl was crawling under that blanket, I just knew. I just knew something was gonna pop up and scream. Has the official release date been confirmed or no?
Chunk
Has the official release date been confirmed or no? 21st January, 2011. But anyway, you're not alone Don; I jumped too. The film looks great. Boo to Katie Holmes, though.

trip
No f*cking way. Now I am pissed. I'm sick of these remakes. I love the original staring Tim Hutton's dad. They are about to destroy another great movie. WARNING - Old man rant ahead. Back in the days before laser disks, betamax, vhs, dvd, bluray, DVR, and cable tv they used to show horror movies on one of the only 4 available channels at 11:30pm on friday nights. I have such fond memories of "Don't be Afraid of the Dark" from back then. I can't tell you how happy I was when I managed to get it on DVD a few years back. /old man rant If any of you have not seen the original I sincerely think you should - just for the history. There are some killer prop shots since there were no special effects. The little men that live in the blocked off fireplace of the blocked off room are full sized men in weird suits standing around some classic hollywood'esq big props like books and pencils. What's next? A remake of the cheesy "This House Possessed"? My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens

OH NO
If any of you have not seen the original I sincerely think you should - just for the history. The little men that live in the blocked off fireplace of the blocked off room are full sized men in weird suits standing around some classic hollywood'esq big props like books and pencils. I saw it years ago when I was really young, think we had a vhs. Im sure it was a made for TV movie. It stuck with me and I know it has a cult following, think it was one of the first horrors I saw with a downbeat ending. Watched it again recently and it was still fairly eerie. I dont watch horror trailers but Im looking forward to this, apparently no gore or sex but still has an R rating. Sounds good to me.
