I APOLOGIZE IF THERE IS A THREAD/POLL LIKE THIS ALREADY

I would like to see more humor but have a bit of a serious undertone to it much like the GTA 3 era style of games, I just thought that GTA IV was just too serious.

I'm sure a lot of people will say more serious. I for one would hope for a better balance. No more dark dreary sh*t, but R*, lets try not to be a clown.

i trust R* will do a good job on both aspects, i thought they did a good job on both seriousness and humor in GTA4, tlad, and tbogt, and even RDR. but i still think niko's story was a little too serious not much though. R* games are pretty much the only games that make me laugh in singleplayer hands-down

EDIT: oh yeah, i picked a good mix of both

Humor is one of my favorite element's of a Grand Theft Auto Title.

I liked the GTA 3 style of humor. It was so twisted and it just drew you in to play it more and more...

I actually thought GTA IV had a great balance in terms of humor, and a serious tone. There was still comic relief in GTA IV's story with characters like Roman, Brucie etc. My favorite bit of humor is when Roman, and Niko are locked up in Faustin's basement, and instead of being scared Niko is very sarcastic. Especially when he tells Andre his dad likes it up the ass lol. I always laugh when I watch that cutscene

Infact I would say GTA III is alot more serious. I never laughed once during GTA III's story like I have with VC, SA, and GTA IV.

I think GTA IV is very funny! GTA San Andreas is more "goofy" but it's funny too! I'd like a humor like GTA III, the humor is very subtle! I laugh a lot when the colombians say "I'm going to kill you" lol.giflol.gif

With any GTA, you do need one to complement the other. IV was by far the most serious but still had a fair bit of comic relief - Brucie being an ass, Packie being a funny drunk, singing Danny Boy, Roman being a coward, I thought Vlad was quite funny, mostly his accent. The serious element of IV was a bit too much for me though, and it massively impacted on my enjoyment of the game, especially when Niko got in a remeniscent mood, or if Dwayne said anything.

While San An was the exact opossite - ALOT of humour with a drop of serious, more humour just makes you (I know "you" is a generalisation) laugh and enjoy the game, where as more serious - borderline depressive (which IV was for me), just makes it kind of boring and put me in a negative mind set. San An is still my favourite of the whole GTA series, but Gay Tony could have pushed it if was a full game.

Put it this way, I want the next one to be more Gay Tony with a dash of IV. I voted Humourous with a serious tone.

Im extremely tired of this R humour, like if you order a burger they keep saying "OH I dropped this on the kitchen floor"! Who thinks that is funny? It's only annoying since it is unrealistic indeed.... and I don't like it when there are too many "clown characters" which was a big issue for me in RDR, and partaully a reason why I didn't enjoy it. Brucie is one in GTA IV, but the way I see it as long as there aren't several it's okay.

So to sum up, serious with a bit humour but my feeling is that these GTA games are going in the opposite direction, I'm afraid..... icon13.gificon13.gificon13.gif

definitely lots of humor but also serious parts because i think thats what iv needed to make it a bit more interesting, here wasn't much humor in the storyline but previous great gta games such as vice city had lots of humor in the story and in general game play and that was one of the things that made it more fun to play.

GTA has always had a good balance between humor and seriousness there is always some sort of comic relief in most of the games. Just a little bit more humor might be a good idea.

My mother's my sister!

I loved that one! My favorite quote was by the late & great Tommy Vercetti when the police chased him he'd say "Go shower with the guys!" lol

I said a Mixture of both.. playing GTA IV i found it a tad to serious but it still was funny. just like when you have to kidnap Gracie and the things she did to try and stop you "turn the wheel" and niko just put her to sleep but also like San andreas. it was very funny. just like the Cutscene for Woozies Casino Mission.. the one with the fake chips.. which was my fav Cutscene in the game haha.. and humor like with Vice City "I did your Wife.. you poor Bastard - Tommy V Shooting at cops" but i would like to see humor and seriousness both.. mostly like GTA III/ GTA IV. i love the humor in GTA Games.. just like the Penis Easter egg on Vice City x) but i like seriousness too because it fits with the story. soo yeah smile.gif

They got it right with GTA IV. It was gripping and sad at times but also light hearted and funny at times aswell.

I think that IV got the balance right. If R* try to be to humorous the game turns into such a joke basically becomes Saints Row.

How much of a fail was it in SR2 when they tried to make a sad moment when Carlos was killed?.

I actually laughed at how poorly executed it was when the bulk of the story was juvenile, and this just came out of the blue. Atleast GTA IV was consistent with its humor, and serious tone.

well let me refrase about what I said about GTAIV, what I meant was that it still had the ped humor, and ad humor that the others had (I almost died when I saw BAWSAQ) but I meant that it was very serious story, and story character wise, especially the ending it didn't end on that hilarious tone like GTA 3 with maria babbling on then hearing a gunshot, or with vice city Tommy Vercetti: You know, Ken. This could be the beginning of a beautiful business relationship...After all, you're a conniving, back-stabbing, two-bit thief. And I'm a convicted psychotic killer and drug dealer.

Ken Rosenberg: I know. Ain't it just beautiful? I just think that GTA IV was serious in missions, but funny out of them, and some jerk is going to make fun of me for this but I did think is was a pretty sad part in Saints Row 2 when Carlos died mostly because his friend had to put him out of his misery, and watch one of his best friends die and IMHO it feels like a homage to the outsiders IMO
