Icarus
Rubbish episode. Casual xenophobia towards the British. Bart portrayed as a loser (Which is just f*cking depressing). And precious little Lisa Simpson again being the centre of attention because she feels things so much more deeply than any living human ever. Plus, she gives money to sick African land-mine orphans with polio. And with a mere word she makes the birds sing in the trees.I mean, someone like that just has the right to ditch their husband, right? F*cking radical feminist agenda. And if you disagree, cast your mind to the episode in which Homer apologises after Marge runs him over. Or maybe to the dozens of episodes in which Homer gets thrown out of the house he pays for. How about Marge dressing her kids up to guilt her husband into not having an affair he had no intention of having in the first place. And then there's the time she guilts her own son into taking drugs. How about the time she disowned Bart for stealing a video game, despite knowing that the kid was a complete delinquent. Eavesdropping on your daughters prayers? Perfectly acceptable. Emotionally manipulating your child so they conform to your religious views? A-OK. The show is a piece of sh*t sometimes, it really is. I would humbly ask everyone in this thread to donate a few dollars each so we can get Typhus a capable therapist. ...OK, maybe more than a few dollars each. This will have to be one hell of a therapist. DOLLARS?! How dare you insult Typhus in such a degrading manner!? He shall have NONE of your inferior currency! Better than the DKK. I just got to Lisa's wedding right as it was being called off. I was definitely not a happy camper.

Straznicy
Honestly, it's still pretty mind blowing to me that someone born in 1990, prior to this month is now 20 years old. Yeah, even though I was a kid at the time, the '90s still feel really recent - yet they were now over a decade ago. I reckon this is feeling that'll occur every new decade, and then wears off by the middle of it. Also, that episode was great. It's a shame we had umpteen "future" episode clones made after it. PresidentKiller
Great episode, and yeah, I can't believe it's been 15 years since then. I was 11 back then. I've watched The Simpsons since 1990, when a local TV channel began airing it. I admit that most recent episodes lack the quality and greatness of past seasons, but some of them are still enjoyable and it's also the only TV show from my childhood that still airs new episodes, so I have to watch it, just for old times' sake. Jay
I was always suspicious of and disliked Marge The main thing I dislike about her is her voice. Of all the voice actors on the show, they are accomplished and varied (doing millions of other characters voices as well). The woman who does Marge does a horrible job, absolutely horrible. But if I were to think about it for longer than a few minutes, I realise how much I hate all of the Simpsons for their own reasons. That goes back to what has been said ITT about how they're all dysfunctional in their own way, but as a group they're charming. Individually they're all c*nts. Doesn't Yeardly Smith only do the one voice? I don't really have a problem with Julie Kavner's voicing of Marge. Actually, I can't imagine how it could be done any better. Her totally off-key singing reminds me so much of my mother, and a slew of other mothers I've encountered over the years... and I think that's what Marge is supposed to represent. Sure, all of the characters have their awful moments, but, at the same time, it would be hard to say that we haven't seen a little bit of someone we know in one of the characters, and also a little bit of ourselves. Eavesdropping on your daughters prayers? Perfectly acceptable. Emotionally manipulating your child so they conform to your religious views? A-OK. The show is a piece of sh*t sometimes, it really is. I was always suspicious of and disliked Marge, especially how she often persues her own (often depleted) sense of purpose and pride beyond her husband and even own kids' well-being. But I never can remember all those examples you mentioned - I guess she really is a piece of sh*t. Allow me: *ahem* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonestorm-Bart steals a game and Marge makes him feel like an outcast for taking the game during the Christmas Season As for Homer being run over-It might have been Homer ditching a prior commitment with Marge, or just a gag. As for Homer being thrown out of the house, well, they've done that so many times. It's when Homer and Marge go through marital problems and Marge kicks him out/Homer leaves and sleeps in a motel or something. The affair-Might be the country music star episode where Homer became a singers manager, and she secretly liked him. Homer declined, and went back to his wife, leaving his position with her. Bart taking drugs-Might be the one where Bart takes pills to calm him down (his mother insists). Winds up being paranoid and stealing a tank, also winds up being completely right about everything. Also, Lisa not believing in some 'skeleton of an angel' they find in an archeological site. Marge essentially 'pressures' her daughter into believing and going to a hilltop for 'the day of reckoning'. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyway, personally I can't believe I'm so lucky as to be under 20, not feel old, YET STILL ABLE TO JOIN IN THE NOSTALGIA HAR HAR HAR. Saggy
Yeah, I haven't been taking the whole "time" thing very well. I still get creeped out every time that I realize that 1960 is now 50 years ago. I mean, I always grew up thinking, "30 years ago, 1970" that was just basically the association I made, but now in reality, 1980 was 30 years ago. Makes me wonder where the f*ck the last decade went. In any case, what keeps making me feel old is listening to the f*cking "classic rock" and "oldies" station to hear any decent music. I mean, I remember my mother doing that in her late 30s and complaining about it, and I'm sitting here at 21 wondeirng why some songs are on on the oldies stations when they were only released in the 70s, then I realize that the 70s were actually a long f*cking time ago now ( no offense 70s kids). In any case, to me it's just weird, I think I remember hearing a Lews Black standup the other night where he was talkinga bout this. He said that the older you get, the faster time goes by. I seem to remember it being forever where the 70s where 30 some years ago, I suppose I'm stuck with it being ~2000 or something. It makes me wonder if people that are a decade lder than I am or so have dstarted doing that where they think "Okay, the 70s were only 20 years ago... Oh f*ck, they were 40 years ago? WHAT THE f*ck?!" You know, f*ck it, I just think of this song... QUOTE (K^2) ...not only is it legal for you to go around with a concealed penis, it requires absolutely no registration! Otter
Yeah Sag. I'm reading this book right now, that was written the early 80s. Keeps making references to the 60s - and then it sunk in. IVSA_Guy
Funny oldage tv shows. I remember the first time when I saw Pokemon. It looked too stupid and its a weird name of that cartoon show. So I thought myself: "What the f*ck is that sh*t?!" "Pokemon?!, why not ChokingMan or PokingMan or DickMan?!" Pokemon name makes no sense. I cant remember in wich year it was, but Im sure I was 6. Back in half of the 90's. That sh*t is still on tv and the jackasses atill making new episodes and new crazy and stupid looking animals. And even more nds games. The most funny part is when Homer is choking the life out of Bart LOL
trip
Yeah, I haven't been taking the whole "time" thing very well. I still get creeped out every time that I realize that 1960 is now 50 years ago. I mean, I always grew up thinking, "30 years ago, 1970" that was just basically the association I made, but now in reality, 1980 was 30 years ago. Makes me wonder where the f*ck the last decade went. -all sort of snip- I just quoted for effect. @Sag, it gets worse. I think I know the formula though - at least for my head. You calculate based on the beginning of a decade. So, in 2000 the 70s were 30yrs ago - they remain 30yrs ago all through the 2000 decade. It's not until about 2009 or even 2010 that you realize another 10yrs went by and now the 70s are/were 40ys ago. On an honest note, I think I know what makes time seem to move faster as you get older. Honestly!! As a younger person you don't have too much to worry about, nor do you have a heaping of responsibilities. Time moves so slow because you have to come up with things to think about - there are just all sorts of hours in a day where you don't have to think or really do much of anything. Then you get a bit older and start taking on adult responsibilities. Stuff like rent(or mortgage), jobs, food shopping, personal health care, maybe animal health care, spouse, children, worrying about retirement and stuff. There is just so much more that is needed to think about - it consumes your thoughts whether you want it to or not. 24 hours in a day is no where near enough time to get though everything you have to do, let alone everything you need to think about. Because you have no 'down time' there is nothing to slow down the movement of time. For me today took about 30minutes from when I woke up until now. In reality 11hrs passed, but I didn't see them because I was so wrapped up in what was needed for me to survive another day. By the end of this week I will feel like 4hrs passed when actually 6+days passed. **The mind is a terrible thing** Back to The Simpsons. I refuse to watch anymore since they felt they could change important back story 2 years ago. I mean, come on...There is no way they could change that many years of back story and not have the comic book guy notice. f*ckers, Marge and Hommer hooked up at the Gulp-n-Blow, there is no way they can change that, but somehow they thought they could. Kippers
WEll out of the 20 years of The Simpsons I think this intro can go in a list of the worst things they've done with the show in recent times...I want to go back toa time before this song existed. PresidentKiller
As ridiculous as it is, the truth is that the show has to appeal to a much younger audience to "go with the times", that's why most (if not all) of us over 20 years old feel the show has gone downhill... the 21st century is going downhill as well. E.A.B.
TIKKU TOCKU I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I thought it was fan-made or a joke. The song is catchy as f*ck though, but with circumstances as they are, it's a desperate cry for attention. One thing I miss about comedy is subtlety. These old clips of the Simpsons had to work with a bit more sophistication because simply having someone curse wasn't enough/allowed. As ridiculous as it is, the truth is that the show has to appeal to a much younger audience to "go with the times", that's why most (if not all) of us over 20 years old feel the show has gone downhill... the 21st century is going downhill as well. When I was 15 I thought it was going downhill, and that was less than three years ago. It's a common problem; TV shows overstaying their welcome. When sh*t like this happens, its time to ax the damn thing Better to go down with a legacy and not on your knees after years of mediocrity.
