hetment
hello all i have a problem with my games performances.... actually when playing a game my fps is okay like 16-20 in gta 4 and EFLC and in others 20-30.. but the problem comes when after some time playing the FPs suddenly goes to like 1-5.... its very troublesome and makes the game unplayable... . now i checked my gpu temperature with fan speed... and comes 110 when pl;aying!!... but it isnt burned completely as games stil work.. now can those fps skips be because of this card or it is some other problems?? any ideas please? yoječ
Post your PCs specs please. 110C is too high temp for a video card. You might want to clean it from dust.
Wolf68k
His specs are in his sig The problem is your mostly your 8400GS and slightly your CPU. GTA4 prefers a quad core CPU. As for the 8400GS; the 8400 is pretty weak as it is and the GS doesn't make it much better. Moving to a simple 8800 would see some improvement. What you really want is something like 8800GT/GTX/Ultra or 9800GT/GTX/GTX+ and 1GB on the card (if those ever had it) but these days you'd be better off just jumping to say a GTX260/216 (there's a 260 and a 260/216 confusing I know) or better and if possible 1GB of RAM. Something else that can help is more system RAM Of course after you get any or all of this you'll have to make a new sig
hetment
yeh my signature is kinda my informant ... anyway yes i will change card but still i dont want it to happen to new card.. you see most wanted ALSO slows down.. i think 8400gs is enough for it... and at first even gta 4 always showed 16-20 fps... it happened just some days ago... i will try cleaning dust but i hope there isnt any other reason than overheating? Wolf68k
Trust me the 8400 is a crap card. The rule of thumb for nVidia cards is this. 1st number = card series, higher the number the better 2nd number = card grade, the higher the number the better Letters at the end of the number are extra grades, the higher letter the better. Example a 8400 GT is better than a 8400 GS which better than a 8400 with no letters at all. Also the more letters there are the better. So a GTX is better than a GT. With the 2xx series it's the same thing only the letters are in front of the numbers, but the same rules apply. With GTA4 it is mostly a CPU hog. The better the CPU the better the game will play. A game like Crysis is a GPU hog, the bigger the better. Now that's not to say with GTA4 if you get an Intel i7 then your 8400 will play just fine, you still need a better video card but you could get away with using an 9800GT (for example) with that i7 a lot better. But you had in 1-2GB more of RAM and it'll play even better. Something I forgot to ask and mention before is your game settings and if you've tried any of the tweaks to help the performance in GTA4 (read the PC forums for those tweaks) I've got a C2Q Q8200 and 9800GT and I had to lower my settings from what most people might expect to be able to play and do some of the tweaks only I had to tweak the tweaks to make it even better for me and I able to get 30-40fps but the biggest problem still came that I was only able to play for about 1hr, provided I didn't reload saved games over and over, and then I had to quit and start the game again. hetment
well i hadnt done any tweaks though... i did overclocks on my card but once the fps problem started i reset them though
Vasilyrud
I have a similar issue, only without the game performance drop. First of all, my specs: Intel Core2Duo E4600 2.4GHz 2Gb RAM DDR2 ATI Radeon HD 3850 (256MB) Windows 7 Ultimate x86 [No overclocking] What worries me is the temperatures of my CPU and GPU. I want to know whether or not they are dangerous to my hardware. Temperatures found using "CPUID Hardware Monitor", "Everest", and "Speccy". Idle temperatures: CPU -- 46 C GPU -- 52 C In GTA4-EFLC @~20fps: CPU -- 64 C GPU -- 91 C In Assassin's Creed 2 @~25-30fps I once got over 100 C for the GPU. While my GPU and CPU are burning, the game performance doesn't drop. The fans are working 100% and no overclocking has been done. So I want to know if I can use my computer without it blowing up. PS: Room temperature -- 35 C Edited August 4, 2010 by Vasilyrud
