Bigs 17
Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves Let me forget about today until tomorrow Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" can be overplayed sometimes, but hell with a final verse as legit as this it doesn't matter. But really any number of his tunes could be put in this topic. My love she speaks like silence Without ideals or violence She doesn’t have to say she’s faithful Yet she’s true, like ice, like fire People carry roses Make promises by the hours My love she laughs like the flowers Valentines can’t buy her In the dime stores and bus stations People talk of situations Read books, repeat quotations Draw conclusions on the wall Some speak of the future My love she speaks softly She knows there’s no success like failure And that failure’s no success at all

Dark. 0
There are some little sections and lines from a few songs that I've had my mind around, lately: "Push Button" by Stolen Babies The more you believe, the less that you think. The less that you think, the more that you speak. The more that you speak, the less that you see. The less that you see, the more you believe. "Centipede" by Shaolin Death Squad Look at the centipede as he crawls around on the ground. Moving in darkness, his legs find prey without a sound. "Pandora's Musical Box" by Mind's Eye The way that you use the bible priest, smashing my face with discipline. Without lyrics, a song would be boring I must disagree with this statement. If you rip away the vocals from a song that already exists, then of course it will probably be boring to hear. But the voice is only one mode of musical expression. There are a lot of instrumental works that don't abide by today's standard rock song form; you have to open yourself up to different genres. Bands that really let out a ton of expression through musical instruments (a lot of today's guitar solos go for speed rather than musicality) rather than voice are out there, you just have to find them! The media (and 15 year old girls) despise change!
Claude Speed. 10
Without lyrics, a song would be boring (with a few exceptions). Without lyrics it would be called a tune. And instrumental music is not boring at all, quite the contrary, a song is likely to be less complex than a tune because it has to fit with the lyrics.
Vanilla Shake 1,422
Just remembered a song: "Adhesive" by Stone Temple Pilots My friend Blue he runs the show It's hot pink purple china glow His family trees are molded No longer grows in summer He holds it closer Lets it go Picks a fruit but keeps it whole Can't keep the submarining Can't keep the light from fading Grab the hate and drown it out Grab the beat and drum it out It's all so confusing Ain't the same for you and me Cartoon-like reality Dogs and cats and children The deepest wound is hidden Ain't the same for you or me Comatose commodity The superhero's dying All the children crying Sell more records if I'm dead Purple flowers once again Hope it's sooner Hope it's near Corporate records' fiscal year Down the river Down the river Have a listen Lend an ear Here's a song now if you care I'll just hum along Words don't matter anymore Grab the hate and drown it out Grab the beat and drum it out It's all so confusing Adhesive love Adhesive Adhesive love Adhesive love Adhesive Adhesive love Flying high across the plain Purple flowers ease the pain Here now have a listen Ain't the songs you're missing Down the river Down the river Stitch the womb and wet the bed With a whisper I'll be dead Don't let the living die yet Grab the hate and drown it out Grab the beat and drum it out It's all so confusing Adhesive love Adhesive Adhesive love Adhesive love Adhesive Adhesive love Yeah Yeah Very mellow. Dark. 0
I've been drawn into this song like a drug addict to cocaine. It's a little weird, and some people complain that the accordion doesn't fit in. If you ask me, it actually does well in complementing the other instruments and achieving a dark, unique atmosphere. I can see the lifeless, I can feel the darkness under you I can see behind me I can try to hide it but without a will to see the truth I can feel a heartbeat slowing to nothing Why don’t I go when I know there’s nothing I should want here? Why do I stay when I know there’s nothing I should say? As I stand behind you, lost in all the things that I would do Never really with you, quietly halfway in the room Do you see behind you, do you see behind you? Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when I know there’s nothing I should want here? Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when there’s nothing you can see? Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when I know there’s nothing I should say? Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when I know there’s nothing for me here? How I see you now is all wrong With my hands full and it’s all wrong And I shouldn’t have looked ‘cause now I can’t look away Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when I know there’s nothing I should want here? Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when there’s nothing you can see? Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when I know there’s nothing I should say? Why don’t I go tell me why do I stay when I know there’s nothing for me here?

trip 14,492
I'm bumping this topic in a cheating kind of way. Brief background(that you may not understand) - Some people here at GTAF call me a hippie, but to be more precise, I am a Deadhead hippie. There are books written on traveling with the Grateful Dead, so if you really need to know...feel free to read. Or get lazy and watch a documentary. I spent years being one of those people who traveled with the band. There is no explaining what we had, and there is no way to relay how missed it is. Every so often memories sneak up on me. Great memories that make me sad, yet smile with a tear in my eye. I would love to offer up a real version, but there would be less of a chance of anyone here listening to it over a studio version. The song popped into my head, so I pulled up a version from 'my' years to listen to. It pains me to offer up the studio version. anyway.... If you like lyrics - listen away. Jimmy_Leppard 1,205
Without lyrics, a song would be boring (with a few exceptions). Try listening to Instrumental rock and Neo Classical metal for example. You'll change your mind quickly....Only if you listen to Justin Bieber or rap crap, then you won't change your mind. Listen to Joe Satriani's Always with me, always with you song. Jason Becker's Altitudes. You'll see what I'm talking about. Music doesn't have to have lyrics to be emotional and interesting. Here is a wacky incest bit from the song 'I Been Refused': Bought a Kodak brownie* Develop film at home Took some shots of sister Pants were full of foam Took a couple back views Took some up front Three tries, wallet size I was looking at that c*nt *for you youngsters, a Kodak brownie = the first instant film camera available long before digital cams. Flesh-n-Bone 633
I'm in a positive mood so I'll choose something uplifting with "Unity" by Devin the Dude. My talk is slightly different and my walk is not the same I can't pronounce a couple words that's in the dictionary, man I know it's easier to call me names than to understand my nature You and me might disagree but that don't mean I have to hate you Take some time to talk to someone who has a totally different culture You just might learn something new, it ain't gonna hurt ya To collaborate, combinate and ya'll can make the change Instead of fighting each other cause your life is so plain (Now he got his thang and you got yours She got hers since the day she was born) So we all got to get a long cause ain't nobody better than the next No matter what race, color, creed, or sex But you can better yourself by listening to others And what they got to offer treat them like sisters and brothers Love them even though you disapprove sometimes We all have faults I know I got mines

post 0
i can see this easily turning into a thread with 100 pages that no one ever takes the time to read, especially as a number of you have already decided to post several hundred words at a time. let's keep this simple -- this hook was on my mind today, and has been off and on for a few years, since i first heard it: turn the light on wait, wait ( Believer, from 'A Moment In Prime' ) and BTW - there are many many entire genres full of beautiful music that have no lyrics whatsoever, so i absolutely disagree with the idea that music needs them - but agree wholeheartedly that they're important. what you listen to seeps into your head and affects the way you think, act and feel, no matter what you may tell yourself differently. don't fill your head with crap - take it from someone who's probably 3x older than the majority of the forum - music is more powerful than you probably imagine. I don't know exactly why. So, I guess this is my favourite lyrics. One of them, of course. "(...)Fear is only in our minds Taking over all the time(...)" I like all lyrics of Eminem's songs. Mister Pink 12,111
Amazing video to accompany this song and lyrics. I wish they made more videos like this. Like more abstract or more arty kind of shorts with a little story that keeps you guessing: "what's going on" a bit like that Radiohead video there the guy is on the ground. Anyway here are the lyrics and video... wrong wrong wrong wrong I was born with the wrong sign In the wrong house With the wrong ascendancy I took the wrong road That led to the wrong tendencies I was in the wrong place at the wrong time For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme On the wrong day of the wrong week I used the wrong method with the wrong technique Wrong Wrong There's something wrong with me chemically Something wrong with me inherently The wrong mix in the wrong genes I reached the wrong ends by the wrong means It was the wrong plan In the wrong hands The wrong theory for the wrong man The wrong eyes on the wrong prize The wrong questions with the wrong replies Wrong Wrong [From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/d/depeche-mode...ong-lyrics.html] I was marching to the wrong drum With the wrong scum Pissing out the wrong energy Using all the wrong lines And the wrong signs With the wrong intensity I was on the wrong page of the wrong book With the wrong rendition of the wrong look With the wrong moon, every wrong night With the wrong tune playing till it sounded right yeah Wrong Wrong (Too long) Wrong (Too long) I was born with the wrong sign In the wrong house With the wrong ascendancy I took the wrong road That led to the wrong tendencies I was in the wrong place at the wrong time For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme On the wrong day of the wrong week I used the wrong method with the wrong technique Wrong [/font]

Robert Hunter(wrote almost all of the Dead's lyrics) is great for lyrics. From Talkin' Money Tree: After awhile I got so board I just gave the whole thing back All I kept was a bar and grill by the northbound railroad tracks You can stop by here anytime of night Or any time of day The second cup of coffee's free..., but the first one... you've got to pay. Mister Pink 12,111
Reminded me of A Boy Named Sue, the sound and style. Nice little song though. Simon & Garfunkels songs always paint this great imagery in head. Writen by Paul Simon: America "Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together." "I've got some real estate here in my bag." So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies And we walked off to look for America "Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh "Michigan seems like a dream to me now" It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw I've gone to look for America Laughing on the bus Playing games with the faces She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera" "Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat" "We smoked the last one an hour ago" So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine And the moon rose over an open field "Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping I'm empty and aching and I don't know why Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike They've all gone to look for America All gone to look for America All gone to look for America Another favourite of mine.... Expecting To Fly - Buffalo Springfield There you stood on the edge of your feather, Expecting to fly. While I laughed, I wondered whether I could wave goodbye, Knowin' that you'd gone. By the summer it was healing, We had said goodbye. All the years we'd spent with feeling Ended with a cry, Babe, ended with a cry, Babe, ended with a cry. I tried so hard to stand As I stumbled and fell to the ground. So hard to laugh as I fumbled And reached for the love I found, Knowin' it was gone. If I ever lived without you, Now you know I'll die. If I ever said I loved you, Now you know I tried, Babe, now you know I tried. Babe, now you know I tried, Babe.
Mr White0161 45
My favorite song is All Along The Watchtower. I don't know what it is but it just seems so true. Originally written and played by Bob Dylan in 66' (if memory serves me right) then covered by Jimi Hendrix in 68'. It's said that Hendrix was a huge Bob Dylan fan, does explain why he took a great song by in my opinion on of the greatest song writers along with one of the worst singers ever and covered it into something that is truly an epic. Unfortunately Hendrix died a few years later in 1970. He will always remain the only one who can truly play this song the way it's meant to be played. All Along The Watchtower: "There must be some kind of way out of here," Said the joker to the thief, "There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief. Businessman they drink my wine, Plowman dig my earth None will level on the line, nobody offered his word, hey" "No reason to get excited," The thief, he kindly spoke "There are many here among us Who feel that life is but a joke But you and I, we've been through that And this is not our fate So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late" All along the watchtower Princes kept the view While all the women came and went Barefoot servants, too Outside in the cold distance A wildcat did growl Two riders were approaching And the wind began to howl *buisness man there, drink my wine, Come and take my herb. Another song I'd like to add is House of The Rising Sun by The Animals. It is some what a dark song but I love it!!! There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one My mother was a tailor She sewed my new bluejeans My father was a gamblin' man Down in New Orleans Now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and trunk And the only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a drunk ------ organ solo ------ Oh mother tell your children Not to do what I have done Spend your lives in sin and misery In the House of the Rising Sun Well, I got one foot on the platform The other foot on the train I'm goin' back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain Well, there is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one I can't forget Welcome to The Machine by Pink Floyd. However that song scares the sh*t out of me I still love none the less... Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been. You've been in the pipeline, filling in time, Provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'. You bought a guitar to punish your ma, And you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool, So welcome to the machine. Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. What did you dream? It's alright we told you what to dream. You dreamed of a big star, He played a mean guitar, He always ate in the Steak Bar. He loved to drive in his Jaguar. So welcome to the Machine.
