So this movie looks to be pretty much exactly like anime fan service but Westernized. I'm totally down with attractive girls wearing lingerie and fighting samurai's.

Vanessa Hudgens and that asian chick from the goddamn Real World are real facepalmers, but everything else about this looks awesome. Plus, Jon Hamm is in it, so instant cool points. And the trailer was a total orgy of nerd imagery. I loved it.

Hate to seem like a male chauvinist but this does look pretty good. Sure it is pandering to the action-movie-going male mentality with all the hot girls, skimpy clothes, explosions and guns but it does seem to have a pretty good style and productions value. I'm no cinematographer, but to my amateur eyes it looks pretty well shot and pretty gripping.

 

Plus I really love the styling of the poster and the title card:

 

And while I was having a look around about the film (I was convinced it was a comic book film) I found out that apparently the girls trained with Navy f*cking SEALs in preparation for the film. That's pretty hardcore.

 

EDIT: Just rewatched the trailer/teaser again and the ridiculousness of it really set in. At one point there's an american woman dressed like a japanese schoolgirl cleaving apart german soldiers with a katana in WW1 trenches. Then you've got massive (mechanical?) samurai with gattling guns, dragons fighting B52's, exploding zeppelins, burlesque shows and a mental asylum all mashed together. It's just unadulterated balls-to-the-wall ridiculous. It's either going to be amazing fun or just plain terrible, I reckon. Siding with amazing fun for now.

It's exactly like any fan service action anime. Except it's Western, and live action
