Cojage
Anyone got Starcraft 2 yet? I didn't play Starcraft 1 so I started with the tutorial and a bit of campaigning. It's balanced but the graphics and storyline so far aren't amazing. Maybe coz I don't understand the storyline at all lol. But the gameplay is indeed great for a strategy game. It's also very entertaining and addicting. Ill go to try to play online tonight but I probably get defeated very easily. Who played SC1 and can tell me a bit of the storyline? Lithium
I haven't played Starcraft in years, but I remember that I loved it. Online it was a little more difficult, and the Zerg are pretty cool!! I'd really like to play the new one, but I'm not much in to PC gaming these days. You said the graphics aren't that good?

OverTheBelow
I've finished the entire campaign on normal except the last level. I just can't do it. There was one level I found hard in particular and it comes around the middle of the campaign. It's where you have to build an army whilst constantly moving your base towards enemy territory. and men away from an incoming wall of fire. Ugh. No. The fact that it is only on the dirty ol PC on the other hand, would.

Reconite
Lot of piracy going on with SC2 or something I take it? You don't know the half of it. I'm not going to link but if you check ... you can see 9500+ leechers on certain SC2 torrents, and no, I'm not one of them. jelly
.. Spoiler tags won't change the rules dude. Anyway, can we discuss the game instead of the retards pirating it and missing out on MP? My desktop is down but I've been playing the game on my laptop a bit where it actually runs, surprisingly. Game seems good so far although the cutscenes are cringeworthy. CharmingCharlie
There appears to be a "minor" bug in Starcraft 2 that those with older PC's might want to keep an eye on ........ due to the fact it could fry your graphics card :- StarCraft II has been one of the most anticipated games in the last half dozen years and now that it’s here and upon us something was bound to happen. Has StarCraft II melted your machine yet? Blizzard has officially admitted that it’s a known issue and that there is a fix to it all. StarCraft II’s menu screens aren’t framerate-limited, which means that when there’s nothing else happening, your graphics hardware renders the sh*t out of those screens, causing some bad overheating problems. Not to worry though the fix-up is easy, requiring players to add only a few of the following lines to your “Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt” “Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt” file (nice catch, commenter LegolElf): frameratecapglue=30 frameratecap=60 From Blizzard Customer Service: http://kokugamer.com/2010/07/29/blizzard-c...verheating-bug/ I think this is a case of "the straw that breaks the camels back" ie PC's that are in pretty poor shape running starcraft for hours on end are kicking the bucket since they haven't been used for gaming in an age. However always wise to keep an eye on things no matter what shape your PC is in.
Creed Bratton
Haha, that is hilarious. I wonder who are the unlucky bastards that got their GPU's die like that.
jelly
That's really strange.. More that it shows up now than that it is happening. The beta test was fairly extensive - coupled with the dudes who didn't get into beta but played AI maps using the beta client that should be a fairly large sample. Weird stuff. There is something with those menu screens though. On my laptop the menus are slow and will sometimes stutter whereas actual gameplay runs flawlessly. CharmingCharlie
I have seen one or two people around the net complaining "OMGZ starcraft 2 like totally melted my cat and the graphics card" I naturally expressed my condolences over the cat. I know one or two saw their Nvidia 8800gt go to the great GPU heaven, not seen any ATI users yet suffer this. I don't think it is a major thing affecting thousands of people though and it seems to be affecting machines that aren't ordinarily used for gaming ie a PC a mum uses it to email the principal and Johnny Junior comes along, shoves starcraft 2 on and then drapes a blanket over the PC for sh*ts and giggles. So if you use your PC routinely for gaming then you don't have to worry about it but always wise to know it can happen so you can take steps to prevent it happening. GTA3Freak-2001
Is it just me or does Starcraft 2 feel like the jump between Warcraft II and WC3? I mean like how they focus on telling a more detailed story and offer an almost RPG/RTS hybrid where you can upgrade units & buildings as well as visit areas of the ship to talk to characters etc.

When I'm on the ship it gives me an RPG feeling which is a testament to the storyline and the level of detail they input. Admidably some of the conversation are cliche, but because of that they provide a sense of comic relief which is nice. Not sure if thats what they were going for, but its there. Not sure how long the game is, but for anyone worrying this would be only 1/3rd of a game, then stop worrying. I've played perhaps 5-6 hours, and I feel like I've barely stratched the surface storyline wise. And after all this time the game is still introducing some new units. People were afraid that they would do 3 mini campaigns and sell them full price each rather than 3 full lenght ones. I was saying that it was a full campaign. Well worth the money in lenght. @[sM]CJZera, Protoss and Zerg get their own games.
ilya
Yeah, the original StarCraft had around 30 missions; about 10 for each race's campaign ~ same for Brood War. Wings of Liberty's Terran campaign has nearly 30 missions, and Heart of the Swarm / Legacy of the Void's will be similarly big for the two other races. Thus each in the SC2 trilogy will be proper game-length, together having roughly 50% more than SC+BW combined. Hopefully those subsequent games/expansions will bring new units and maps to MP. GTA3Freak-2001
Yeah it does work out better having only Terran in the first release and then the other two races in instalments as we are getting a game length campaign for each race really.
