First thing, you'll need a pirate copy of SA.

 

Oops, wait, we can't help you further here. Get a PC version (they are available second hand for 5 quid now) and modify it easier and legally.

PC version 1.0 only for modding. However, you can have custom songs on your own radio station on the Xbox version, just like with the PC version. Unfortunately, the PS2 version was the first to come out, and doesn't really have any special features apart from ARMax and GameShark codes.

 

So yeah, if you wanna mod, get the PC version. Doesn't matter if you get version 2, you can downgrade.

Modding the ps2 versions is of course possible (I modded vc ps2 textures some time ago). You need a modchip (which you obviously have) or some other method to run burned dvds and either a blank dvd, or even better a hard disk drive and a program like hdloader to use it.

Somewhere on the forums there is a tutorial by barton waterduck for making a ps2 bootable iso.

Unless you're changing dffs or txds the modding process should be fairly straightforward.

Modding dffs is also easy as the ps2 can read pc dffs (but it's not as efficient as using optimized ps2 dffs, which are read only at the moment).

Modding txds is a little bit more involved but possible (tutorial in the previous post).

I suggest you read barton waterducks tutorial and get a hard disk for your ps2, if you don't have one.

And also, how does some console games have trainers in the beginning if modding PS2 games is not possible?

Also, just ignore the "illegal" part, you won't be arrested for changing files of a PS2 game, nor having a burned copy of the game (even if you hadn't the original copy). The only thing to care about here, at the forums, is the "no warez" rule... This means, don't upload the ISO and link to it here, that's dangerous if you want to stay on the forums.
